Field: Social Work

Beyond teaching, I am a practicing visual artist and maintain an active art practice that encompasses sculpture, printmaking, video, and performance. I am a member of Backwater Artists Group, Cork Printmakers, Sample Studios, and the National Sculpture Factory.

My research-based practice examines post-colonial narratives through the lens of Greek mythology, neoclassical architecture, and the history of museums. Using printmaking as the nexus point from which to expand into sculpture, video, and performance, I create playful but pointed installation works and experimental exhibitions that serve as testing grounds for my research.

• 4 students per group means about 25 groups so test taking teams could have been implemented to increase group numbers and decrease amount of groups

• students could use padlet or miro to facilitate the group work and make the results clearer

"Designing Financial Literacy Program to Reduce Stress and Improve Decision-Making in Vulnerable Populations"

Context:

• Financial literacy is a crucial skill, particularly for vulnerable groups, such as low-income families or individuals recovering from addiction.

• Stress due to financial insecurity affects decision-making and overall well-being, often studied in neuroscience and social work.

Disciplines Involved:

1. Finance:

   • Analyze the financial needs of vulnerable populations.

   • Develop practical financial tools (e.g., budgeting apps or workshops).

2. Social Work:

   • Identify and engage target populations.

   • Ensure inclusivity and relevance in program design.

3. Neuroscience:

   • Explore the relationship between financial stress and cognitive function.

   • Neuroscience may contribute to training subjects to self-control stress or suggest drug-free interventions to limit the stress impacts on daily life, for example, using tDCS.

Deliverables:

1. Develop a financial literacy campaign tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable populations

2. Possible formats include:

   • Printed Materials: Informational brochures or guides.

   • Digital Tools: Mobile apps, budgeting tools, or interactive platforms.

   • Workshops: In-person or virtual workshops with interactive activities and skill-building exercises

   Students decide what format their campaign takes.
