1. I have never been a Principal Investigator in research before. This gave me the opportunity to lead one by working with young people to conduct about 40 community health needs assessments. I had to learn as I implemented my project. This for me is one of my biggest key learnings.

2. This project expanded my leadership capacities. I learned how to be innovative in using limited resources to achieve lots of results. I had to learn how to inspire others to passionately pursue the project's goals. I had to delegate some responsibilities as I mentor and provide supportive supervision. Harnessing young people's creative capacity was one skill that improved.

3. I learned to better appreciate the power of collaboration and support from my fellow IFL fellows and the IFL team. The way everyone is willing to support me in ensuring my project is a success is commendable and highly appreciated.

4. I have learned that it is okay to experiment, it is okay to meet roadblocks and challenges, it is okay to fail, and it is okay to step back and find new/better ways of solving problems. One very fundamental thing about the flexibility that the fellowship provided for me was that, it took away the fear of failing and not living up to expectations. And because the fellowship was structured to provide support all the way, failure becomes a process and not an end. It becomes a journey and not an event. This guarantees success in the end. This guarantees transformation. This guarantees great achievements.
