If I am remembering correctly, some of the students are placed in separate classes but can be integrated for some subjects, depending on their knowledge of English.

Students can be hesitant to answer questions or feel dumb because they can't communicate like their peers, so it's important to encourage them. I have experienced a lot of students where Spanish was their first language. There are different levels of ESL, some students you wouldn't be able to tell that English wasn't their first language, but sometimes the student just started learning English, or it's harder for them to pick it up.
