It  has a gothic atmosphere because the narrator is a killer. He's unreliable because he's crazy and that's why he killed the old person who had a disease that made his eye look like a vulture and that's why he killed the eye in  like looking into the eyes of hell. Due to all I said in the following paragraphs it proves my point of the gothic and unreliable narrator.

Cristof is a symbol of God. Cristof is represented as a god, he created the show, since God created everything, Cristof makes it clear that he sees himself as God, he controls everything, Cristof controls the people, the environment and he also controls the weather. Also, when Truman tried to escape out of the set,  he talked to Truman as if he was god. He said things like: “I created you, I’ve seen you since your birth” and then when Truman was talking to Cristof the sky cleared. This proves that he is an image of god, since he was always looking at Truman and watching him and seeing if he was ok.

For example, in the story we have seen if truman is in trouble he goes and talks to marlon and not his wife and is because marlon has been doing the role of best friend since his a child and is more committed in the role more than truman wife. .In summary this is why Marlon is the ideal friend.
