In chapter one Ratliff talks about the concept of repetition and connect to our own humanity. I agree with Ratliff’s arguments, that repetition is in our own behavior. People use repetition in their life; people get up in the morning, goes to work, and sleep everyday, it can be a repetition. There are good and bad repetition we use in our life. We use bad ones when we’re being greedy or punitive, self-absorbed or cruel. This repetition happens whenever we tell ourselves we may get something new out of the process, even though we know we don’t. The good ones might suggest positive upkeep, or providing for others, adding to an ongoing process. There are many repetition music examples in Ratliff’s playlist; some of the songs express good repetition and transfer positive energy, others express bad repetition and make people fall in depression. In every repetition, there are different kinds of variation in the music, without variation repetition can’t be formed.
