a) "How does Orwell" means that you must focus on how things are presented to us by the writer, not just simply on the things/events/characters.

b) "gaining power" means what allows Napoleon to get control of the farm in the first place.

c)"securing power" means what allows him to keep power once he is in charge.

2) Look at slide 2. These are the areas for you to write body paragraphs on. It shows you where to find evidence for these ideas.

-->1 on his strengths that allow him to gain power.

-->1 on the weaknesses of rivals.

-->2 on his political methods.

3) Open the third slide and the completed example planning box. You are looking for evidence in your two-column character table that you made to put in the red evidence box for body paragraph one.

4) Open the fourth slide and repeat the process for body paragraph 2. You need evidence of the animals' or Snowball's weakness.

5) Open fifth slide and complete evidence boxes for body paragraphs 3 & 4.

6) When you are finished finding evidence, complete the detail finding sections next (c and d on the planning boxes) for each of your body paragraphs.

7) When you finish this, finish the opening points section (green) and the writer's intentions (yellow).

8) Homework: plan the thesis statement and the conclusion.
