Ada and Grace continue to have numerous fights. Old Rod, Grace and Eva are in a car accident and not long after this Grace finally works out that Old Rod is her dad.  Papa Neddy dies towards the end of the book and this really deystroys Grace and her family. Old Rod then dies and Grace's mental and physical health goes durrastically downhill. Ada runs away from the family and Grace is left to almost fend for herself and protect her sisters who are all starving. The book is left hanging in the sense that the readers are left wondering how Grace and her sisters will be able to survival. The book ends on a deep conversation with Grace and Mumma.

The welfare come and they all have to hide. It is a pretty traumatic experience for Grace. Violent man with a knife comes and scares the girls. They stay safe but it is another traumatic experience for the girls and shows what a dangerous situation they are in. Grace starts to experince bullying by other kids. Grace is told she has to go to Adeliade to fix her leg. Grace's first time going on a plane. She likes being in then hospital with clean sheets but still misses her family. This is where her perseption changes of who she really is and wants to be.
