This book is a Texas Bluebonnet book. This is a Book Review.
Chapter book Number 1.

This is a book is both written in English and in Spanish. It is a great read for readers who are learning how to read in English or Spanish. This story is about a man named Mr. Cole, who owns the Cole Cash Store and rent homes. He bought a house that was rumored to be haunted by a ghost. No one wanted to live in this house. He lowered the rent and even offered 6 months free rent and still no one wanted to move into this house. Until Frank Padilla moved to town. He was the Uncle of his friend Chino (which is his nickname). Frank needed to start his life over and fresh after his wife had left him with his two daughters to raise. He had fallen ill and didn't have a job and he saw the house for rent. Despite all of the rumors he had heard about the house and everyone telling him about the ghost he still decided to live there. His two daughters were afraid to live there so he went alone for a week to make sure that strange things didn't happen. The girls stayed with Chino and his grandmother while their father went to check out the house. After several days Frank did notice a couple of strange things that happened but would not say that it was a ghost. Finally his daughter Elena wanted to go and stay with him. The grandmother had told her one thing, if the ghost was to appear she would appear to Elena because she was a child and would appear to her. She taught her want to say if she did see the ghost and to help the ghost if she could. That night, She promised herself that she would stay awake but started to dose off. One night she started hearing loud thumps and heavy footsteps on the roof. Frank just told her that she was dreaming but she wasn't. She was seeing the ghost and talking to the ghost. The ghost told her to find a box of money that she had been stealing from her parents and to use the money to pay for rosaries to be prayed for her and her mother and father. She also told her to find the name of the last baptized baby girl and put the money in the bank for the girl to have for her quince dress. Elena tried to tell her father and had him go look for the box and it was found but there were only ashes in the box. After he didn't believe her and Elena did not do what the ghost said she fell very ill, and ran back to the grandmother and Chinos house. She told the grandmother what had happen and she took Elena to the box and did as the ghost had told her to do. Elena got better and the ghost never bothered anyone again. Frank remarried and moved as well as his girls. The End.

Then when you open the book and see the colors and the illustrations inside of the book they are amazing. In this book you see different aspects and learn different things about being a D.J. It is a great read for people who have a passion and love for hip hop music. Seeing different dance moves in this book and seeing how people react to a passion of someone. I recommend this book.

This books is a Graphic Novel. This is a Review.

When I was searching for different books that I would be interested in reading. This one was on my list of top 5 that I just read the title and was interested. When I found it as skimmed the book to see if it was something that I wanted to read the book was an easy read and is also another book that has both English and Spanish in them. If you like low riders and the back ground of Lowriders this book is a great read. It helps those who are into their culture and their heritage and want a good read. This book was in the form of a comic book with bubbles and comment boxes from the characters in the book. I haven't had the chance to read many books like this one and I am super glad that I found this. I recommend this book to those who just want an easy read and who don't usually read comics. The pictures are great and the words are simple.

This is a great book for children who believe in having an imaginary friend. In this story Beekle the imaginary friend is waiting to be thought of. It tells about all of the unimaginable things to do. Sailing unknown waters, walking through strange places, and walked through a play ground but still no one thought of him. So he sat in a tree and waited for his human to think of him. Then, he heard a voice calling to him. He had found the one who thought of him. They became best friends. They shared snacks, told funny jokes, and together they did the unimaginable.

If she felt the pea she was the one for her son. This has a latino twist to the story. The art and pitures in this book help bring the storty to life. YOu can see how the prince and the queen look. Its about a grandmother who is making a quit for her granddaughter. In the process of making the quilt the grandmother teaches the granddaughter many different lessons. One which is patients, two family and three love. This book showed how the grandmother would make a quilt out of the old scraps and different material from clothing that the children would wear. This quilt would tell the story of them and share many memories for years to come. With patients the granddaughter learned to appreciate the skill of quilt making and the story behind each quilt square that was added. In the end, the little girl had an amazing time learning how to make the quilt and spent time with her mother and grandmother. I am glad to have had the honor of coming across this book as a read.

It was one that many of us kids liked the most. This book has many bright and beautiful colors. This shows a cultural background of the Indians and how they used paints and animals skins to show and recreate what they saw. This Indian was special and different than the other warriors. He was meant to show the amazing things that they would do in his paintings. He painted the great hunts, great deeds and then the most important was he painted the sunset. He was given the paints that he needed to do the best job he could. With those colors and paints he brought color to the tribe. This is a must read book!

This is a banned book and is a letter to my teacher.

Dear Dr. Solomon,

As I was trying to figure out what exactly a banned book was, I went to the library and had a conversation with a Librarian. (It has been so long since I have done that!) As I asked her what exactly a banned book was she explained, " its is a book that principles from schools ban to be read because of content." I was shocked. Of course, I know of books that have certain age appropriate topics but I had no idea of Banned books. I am so glad that in taking this class I have had my eyes open to many things. Such as book topics, book categories and reading kn general. In my search, I came across this book called, "The Stupid's take off" by Harry Allard and James Marshall. I was shocked in the title itself! Especially being for young children. I know in my house my children see the word or say the word stupid and its it's not okay for us to use this word. It is a mean word. Then I began to read the book and was not thrilled about this read like I have been the others. In this read the family finds out that Uncle Carbuncle was going to come for a long visit and in order to avoid him the family decides to go on their vacation early. During their travels they see other family of theirs and visit other relatives. I didn't like how every character in the book was named stupid. To me this book doesn't make much sense and was not one that I would personally recommend to others to read. To me I can understand completely why it is on the banned list. It seems to discourage family to see one another and very negative by calling everyone stupid.

Thank you for your time to read my letter.
Have a great day.

Elizabeth Speights

This is an autobiography and this is a defining quote response.
Chapter book #3

"You win whenever you commit to something, because you can't experience growth without trying." (Page 105) Laurie Hernandez

While I was reading this book I got a lot of inspiration. Laurie Hernandez is an American Gymnast, who had the opportunity to go to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In the events that she participated in, she won silver in the individual balance beam and helped the United States team secure the gold in the team final score. She began participating in gymnastics at the young age of six. The first gym that she enrolled in was in New Jersey and that is where she meet her coach. From then on, she and he coach had a wonderful journey. In 2014 she faced many challenges when she had injuries to overcome. With time, patience and determination she came back strong in 2015. She was named the U. S. Junior national championship. In her book she tells about her dreams and aspirations and achieving what goals she had set in her mind to achieve. Not only did she make it to the Olympics, she also got to compete on the hit T.V. show Dancing with the stars. While on the show she learned many different styles of dance and was partnered with Val Chmerkovsky. She put in hard work and dedication and went on to win the season she was on! Just like her gymnastics career there were many challenges that she faced, but she didn't give up. Instead she gave it her all and won! She inspires young people to set goals and achieve them no matter what comes along your path. "You got this" is a saying she would tell herself to pump herself up to help motivate her to do what she needed to do to achieve her goals. This is such a great read and glad I found this book to read

This book really tugged at my heart. Lucky is a small girl, age 10, who is left in the care of a guardian. Her mother had passed away and her father called on a wife that he had before lucky's mom. Her guardian was a women named Bridgette and she was a little on the fancy side of things. Lucky had a plan to run away from her guardian because she felt that Bridgette just wanted to leave her and go back home to France. Bridgette was taking a class online to open and run a restaurant but lucky thought she was just doing it to go back home. When lucky runs away during the dust storm she didn't realize that she would find her friend miles on the way to the dugout cave. During the dust storm everyone is looking for them and their friend Lincoln found them and warned them that everyone was looking for them. When they are found, Lucky finds out that Bridgette does love her and wants to adopt her as her own daughter and take care of her. She planned on opening her own restuarant and living her life with Lucky. And they live happily ever after. It makes you wonder what other orphan kids go through and makes your heart break for them.

This is a autobiography and this is a defining quote.
Chapter book #5
"I want to be an artist." Walt Disney

When I read autobiographies, I get excited to read about how life was for them and I get interested in their stories. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He loved to draw but jobs and other life issues sometimes didn't allow him to draw like he loved to but that didn't stop him. In 1917 he moved back to Chicago, when his father became part owner of a jelly factory. Dispite being busy with work, he still went to the Chicagos art institute 3 nights a week. He drew cartoons and took photos for his high school. When world war 1 was being fought, walt wanted to help. Because he was to young to join the military, he lied about his age. While helping the red cross, driving an ambulance, he still made time to draw. To make ends meet and make money for other projects he had in mind he would make one minute films and then made 7 minute films. He worked every night very hard to achieve his goals. In 1925, he married his wife Lillian Bounds and had 2 daughters of his own. In the time that passed he made Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, Fantasia and Bambi. And then he continued to work on Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. Then Walt wanted to build a family theme park. In the 1950s, he made the T.V. show Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. In 1955, the first theme park opened. The hopes of a second part was a part of his dream that he never got to see. Walt Died in December 15, 1966.

No matter what Walt Disney went through or faced in his life he continued to do what he loved. Being told over and over that he didn't have the money or didn't have the time, that didn't stop him. He found a way to be an artist and now, even though he is not here his legacy and cartoons continue to be lived out and make children and even adults happy.

19. Day of the Dead: A Mexican-American Celebration by Diane Hoyt-Goldsmith

This is a nonfiction/informal and this is a recommendation.

If you love tradition and learning something new and a culture that has been around for a long time then this is the book to read. In this book it talks about the Day of the dead celebrayion itself. I learned many things that I did not know before. I knew about the altar and the ofrenda and making a big feast for the dead. And usually you put foods and things that the deceased love while they were here in the living world. (I learned and got help from the Disney movie Coco, its it's my favorite movie!) But this book tells you so much more in depth information on the traditional way that people celebrated. An interesting thing that I learned was the different worlds that the dead travel through. They believe in the 13 Celestial levels of the heavens. For instance, an infant that passed away, they believed would go to Chichuacuauhco. There the babies are feed milk from milk dripping from the trees. Another instance is of you were a warrior, who died in battle you went to a place in the sky and traveled with the sun God called Tonatiuh. I highly recommend this book for people who are interested in learning more about day of the dead and the culture behind this celebration.

It has been a joy to get to have my eyes open to reading again and going to continue reading and going to the library because of this class. This is a great culture book. It shows many different cultures and different perspectives. One of the young boy who wanted what everyone else had, when he didn't see and wasn't thankful for what he had. His grandmother helps him see things on the positive side. This read was on of my favorites that have read!

I just thought of hot air ballons. Once I started reading the book it was about a girl who came up with a wild idea of an experiment. She was going to send seeds to the air to grow, instead of her veggies growing and dropping to the ground the veggies were to big to be hers. At the end of the book her veggies went to space with the aliens and their veggies came down to earth. The pictures were great, the story is awesome it was a great read.
