  • John Winthrop: Puritan leader who became the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
  • Thomas Hooker: Puritan minister who founded Connecticut colony; he believed that the governor and other officials had too much power.
  • Roger Williams:  Puritan minister that founded Rhode Island colony, he left Massachusetts Bay Colony since he believed the Puritan Church had too much power and he wanted seperation from the church. Due to this, he was ordered to leave the Massachusetts colony in 1635.
  • Anne Hutchinson: Puritan dissenter banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. She went to Rhode Island in 1638 for religious freedom.
