However, they do add up. Therefore, when teaching you need to make sure all criteria is met. 
 
Students need the basic knowledge of writing responses based upon the specific lesson being instructed. 

It is interesting to see that narrative seems to be more implied than other topics of writing. I noticed that sensory detail, dialogue, characters, and description is very important. 

One thing that surprised me is that from 6th to 9th grade they did not go further in depth or change much with, "creating a poem, story, play work, artwork, or other response to a text author, theme, or personal experience." I thought this would have went more in depth because it touches on "students personal, cultural, and thematic connections"

One thing I say that was different from 6th to 9th grade is the standards want students to gain more understanding in research based sources. In 9th grade it wants students to obtain advanced sources while adhering to citation formats.

There are not many differences in standards when you look closely. The basic concept is that every student needs to understand the prior years standards to move forward into the next year. This is simply, because they are building upon that pervious years standards.

*That all narrative standards are the same in each grade level. 
* Students are giving many skill sets to demonstrate when being assessed for narrative text
*The stand based guidelines do not have any room for creativity and individualized writing
What Knowledge do students need?
*Students need to be able to write a structured sentences. They should know key vocabulary terms such as figurative language, point of view, dialogue, details, etc, Just to name a few things... 
What is specific to the narrative genre?
* Proved a conclusion that follows from and reflect on whats observes, experienced, and resolved
What surprised you?
*I think what surprised me the most is how most of the standards are the same throughout each grade level. There's really no differentiation between the grades.

I noticed that the narrative standards from grades 6-12 are very similar and really change. Two similarities that stay constant are imagery and sequence of events. There are two differences that I found within the narrative standards and grade levels. In grades 6-8 in narrative pieces characters are to be introduced thoroughly. In grades 9-12, problems and point of view are included in narrative pieces. 

Students need to know how to sequence events with the correct vocabulary and details. They also need to know how to create imagery for readers and express resolution within the piece. 

I am most surprised with how similar the standards are. A lot of the time we look at standards and see huge changes within grade levels.
