Krista M

Identified Privacy/Safety Concern: The employee accessed client's personal tablet using his passcode, which is shared amongst staff and cannot be tracked as to which employee is accessing his device, potentially leading to staff accessing other personal data of client's on his tablet.

Reason Why This Matters: Using a shared passcode could lead to compromised personal data of client's. This violates his personal privacy and compromises his personal data.

Recommended Digital Safety Practice: Perhaps having a device that allows access to his music only would be an option, or a radio set to his personal preference to reduce need to access a device with a passcode would be an option. Alternatively, having each staff member have an individual passcode to access the music on his device would be an option, so that it can be tracked which staff member accessed his device and at what time, and updating passcodes regularly. Store that information in a secure location, do not permit sharing of passcodes.

Real-World Application: At my current employer, we have to participate in digital safety courses yearly to refresh our knowledge and reinforce safe digital practices, as confidentiality and protecting client data is imperative. Each staff member should have individual passcode and secure logins to access facility devices, documentation, and in this case, to access an individual's device for purpose of playing music.
