Esperanza has changed by not wanting to be rich and lonely but wanting to be poor and with her family. La patrona means to be the heads of the house hold, because on page 7 it says "after their queasiness that would be old enough to be courted Mary and become la patronas the heads of the house holds".

Esperanza changed on page 158-159 when she could barely sit still and paced around the small room of the cabin when the doctor was checking mama. Esperanza was worried for mama and Abuelita. Also, Esperanza showed she changed on page 166 when she keeps coming up with new ideas to work and raise money for Mama and Abulita. On page 175 when Isabel asked Esperanza what she wanted for Christmas she said she wanted mama to get well and come back "home".

Esperanza has changed by not taking the charity of other people . Also she has learned to be more experienced to help around the camp house. She is becoming more like the adults crocheting. Plus being more involved with family. Like when the book said "Please you must eat more soup, Please Mama you must drink more juice. Please mama I must comb your hair." We think it means to be the leader of the head of the household. The person who keeps things running and working. It defines the meaning on page 7 and 8.
