I learned that China isn’t exactly as strict as we think it is: despite it being a surveillance state, the majority of the kids had no problem speaking about it.

It was interesting to see how the school system is set up there. I can't believe they don't have a lot of free time! All they do is study!  Also I find it interesting that in the end we are all just trying to get a better education and a better future. I enjoyed talking to the students because I got to see how they are given this opportunity and they are doing their best. How ever they do attend school from 7am-10pm and that’s insane to me. I also learned that they have absolutely no diversity in their classrooms. That would be a serious shock for me to adjust to. Overall I was more interested in them as individuals because they didn’t seem to interested in talking about school. We all communicated better when we discussed things we could relate to like food and entertainment.

Today I learned that there are very few of any at all black people in China and that the Chinese have their own cultural bias toward African Americans.
I learned that the arts are not as encouraged in China as they are in the United States.

High school in China involves long work days and hours of studying for exams (such as the entrance exam for University), while many students mentioned that they came to America for college because they thought it would be a harder and more beneficial experience. I also learned that being a foreigner in China is a very different experience as there is much less diversity there compared to here.
