Yes, I think that wedges would have been used a long time ago. I know that axes are wedges, and they used them to chop down trees to make log cabins I know because I'm the text it says, "Axes were used for chopping down trees and making planks of wood." Back in the day, they didn't have chainsaws and whatnot, they only had axes, which is a wedge.
