Which genre do you listen to least and why?

- The genre I listen to the least would have to be country. Its not that I hate the genre, but I felt like its something that particularly relatable to my life experiences. I spent most of my life in the inner city Dallas, as well as the inner city of New York City. There is not a lot of country influence flying around the radio waves in the particular culture that I was raised in. With that being said, I do find some of the projects put out within the genre, however the theme of the music derived from relatable themes like passion, love, and family.

Did you change your mind about this genre after exploring and listening in greater depth? Why or why not?

- After a carful analysis into the genre I really do feel that my position hasn't changed on whether or not the genre is my least favorite or not. However, I have come to have a greater respect for the genre as a whole. When you listen to country music you are being taken down a story that generally reflects the artist. When I was studying the work of Blake Shelton for this Media Report I found that music I tended to enjoy derive from a place of empathy. To see and hear the piece 'I lived It' showed me that this genre of music connect with the very thing that makes us human. In a way, this genre brings us to listen to Love won, or love lost and the story behind it. Other songs bring you straight down to southern farms and prairies that bring in a since of pride of their demographic. Much like the rock genre the country genre uses heightened emotion through the use of song and raw instruments.

This song is one of the tracks that I stumbled upon as I was exploring for a song to choose for the project. When listening to this track I felt the nostalgia in the voice of the artist. I felt his joy when is comes to looking back at ones past in order to delve deeper into ones self. Its interesting to see a different type of life style and slang being used, rather than the one I have become more familiar with. This track I found to be a true embodiment of what the country genre embraces. It embraces the roots of the individual, bring out the souther draw and aptitude, while also making it relatable to any demo.

I found that when listening to more Country music, I could feel the freedom of the artist. From the land to the sky all is appreciated in this style of music. You feel the cowboy influence when you hear about jobs being done and actions being taken that someone who lives similar lives, go through. It was a beautiful thing to connect with this genre with the mind state this is truly an American.

Finally, my advice to myself and other is to open your mind to things that you don't like or have particular interest in. When listening to Country music I found that many themes relate to me simply because I am American. The true nature of country embraces the climate around them both socially and naturally speaking. Moreover, I found that when doing this report is that there is a little something to like in everything. You just have to dig deeper than what your prior perceptions drove you. I found that through this study, my respect for the genre has gone substantially up than prior. In the future ill be sure to remain open minded about things that I'm unfamiliar with.
