Scenario idea (found online- not the best, but not terrible!)

A high school social studies class is discussing current events, particularly a polarizing topic such as immigration policy. During the discussion, students express differing political opinions—some support stricter immigration laws, while others advocate for more open policies. However, students from immigrant backgrounds, or those with differing political views, may feel marginalized, hesitant to share their perspectives, or even targeted by classmates' comments.

The delivery of D/F notices calls out students in front of their peers. Is there a better way to discuss grades without making it obvious what is happening? This practice is also disruptive for classes.

We care about all students, inside and outside of the classroom. We welcome diverse voices and perspectives and offer grace/flexibility to all students.

This is not in our classes per se, but students with language barriers who are not given appropriate accommodations since they may not have an IEP or 504. Instead, many of these students are given 0's or are failing because they are struggling with language issues. Furthermore, it is worth discussing the lack of aides/paras who can speak the same languages as some of students who have limited English. How are we helping these students?

We allow students to craft their own arguments supported by evidence. It allows students to use critical thinking skills and develop a sense of agency.

We make connections with students that allow them to be comfortable in our classroom. As a result, kids enjoy taking Social Studies courses and we continue to have strong numbers throughout all of our courses.

Within the department, I feel that we connect with our students and allow their voices to be heard in our classes. Students feel comfortable to speak up when something is wrong/if they disagree with a perspective.

As a result of our strong rapport with our students, I believe we are able to successfully challenge our students and have them buy into the challenges that we present to them on a daily basis.
