Her parents, Silvio "Tonny" Ciccone and Madonna Fortin, were very religious, putting their kids in Catholic schools and prayed daily at the church's alter, which later influenced her controversial work. Another heavy influence was the loss of her mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer during her pregnancy with Madonna's youngest sister. Camille Barbone of Gotham Records, her manager, showed Madonna how to navigate the male-dominated world of the music business, scoring her a deal with Sire Records, causing her first hit, "Everybody", to hit No.1 on the dance charts in 1982. Her following albums, Madonna in 1983, and Like a Virgin in 1985,  earned her fame.
