         <description><![CDATA[<div>Breakup of the Soviet Union: December 26, 1991<br><br>- Gorbachev allowed for a multi party system which slowly turned their country into more of a democracy and eventually led to its downfall<br>-Georgy Malenkov, Nikita Khrushchev, Leonid Brezhnev and Josef Stalin.<br>- After their leader resigned, the country collapsed and eventually dissolved into Russia as other countries, such as Ukraine, declared their independence&nbsp;<br>- This was a victory for democracy&nbsp;<br>-The purpose of perestroika was to reconstruct their economical and political economy to end the Era of Stagnation.<br>-&nbsp; Put in place by Mikhail Gorbachev, Glasnost was the Soviet Policy of free discussion of political issues, which eventually led to the downfall of the Soviet Union<br>- This was a victory for democracy as a communist country fell </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Chinese Civil War: August 1, 1927 – December 7, 1949<br><br>- The Chinese Civil War was fought between the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese Nationalist Party<br>- The war was caused because of the countries conflicting views and opinions&nbsp;<br>- Chiang Kai-Shek was the leader of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT)&nbsp;<br>-Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, Commander-in-Chief of the National Revolutionary Army.<br>- Cultural Revolution was led by&nbsp; Mao Zedong in attempt to turn the country into a successful communist society and complete the final step of communism<br>- The Great Leap forward was a 5 year communist plan that ended in disaster&nbsp;<br>- Taiwan was the country that the Nationalist party fled to once they realized they were going to lose the war <br>-The civil war ended with communism.</div>]]></description>

Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev.<br>- Fidel Castro was the Prime minister of Cuba<br>- John F Kennedy made the decision to create a Naval Blockade surrounding Cuba<br>- Nikita Khrushchev, Soviet Union Leader, ordered the withdrawal of missiles from Cuba, ending the Cuban Missile crisis.&nbsp;<br>- The Bay of Pigs was a failed invasion by the US, which only strengthened Castro's rule&nbsp;<br>- The United States (Democracy) won this crisis, as the Soviet Union withdrew their missiles </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Division of Germany August 13, 1961<strong><br>-</strong>The division of Germany was an event where soldiers started laying down barbed wire and bricks as a barrier between Soviet-controlled East Berlin and the democratic western section of the city.<br>- Germany was divided into four parts, by the Americans, French, British and Soviet Union <br>- The cause of this was the other countries that were not able to decide on what to do with Germany, and the attempt in trying to prevent another World War <br>-The key people of this event are <strong>Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin and Franklin D.</strong> <strong>Roosevelt.<br>- Berlin was deep inside of the Soviet Union territory, and so the Soviets attempted to block the other countries from passing through to get to their parts of Berlin&nbsp;<br>- The Allies made the Berlin Aircraft to get supplies to their sections in Berlins, as all other ways of transport were blocked&nbsp;<br>- Winston Churchill described this split as an Iron Curtain between Western and Eastern Germany/ Berlin&nbsp;<br>- Harry Truman signed the Marshall Plan, saying that the US would provide aid to any countries that were being threatened by communism, which enforces the US policy of containment towards communism. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;- This was a democratic victory as the US was succesfully containing communism </strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fall of the Berlin Wall: November 9th, 1989<br>&nbsp;- The wall was built August 13th 1961&nbsp;<br>- East Germany announced that the citizens could pass over the border on November 9th 1989<br>- Ronald Reagan gave a speech saying to tear down the wall&nbsp;<br>- Nikita Khrushchev wanted the US to leave Berlin, and when JFK&nbsp; refused, Khrushchev built the Berlin wall.&nbsp;<br>- This was a victory for democracy as it led to the fall of communism in Europe </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Korean War&nbsp;<br>June 25th 1950- July 27th 1953&nbsp;<br>- Korea was divided into two parts after WWII&nbsp;<br>- The Soviet Union had the North and the US had South Korea until 1948&nbsp;<br>- The United Nations and the United States troops were sent to aid South Korea in the War, while China aided North Korea<br>- The United Nations approves elections in Korea and elects a National Assembly, while North Korea refuses to take part in this<br>- the 38th parallel was the line that divided North Korea by South Korea and kept the Soviet Union and United states apart from each other&nbsp;<br>- Douglas MacArthur led the United States in the Korean War&nbsp;<br>- &nbsp;Neither side one the Korean War, but it was a victory for Communism because North Korea and China stayed Communist, and the US failed to contain communism to the Soviet Union </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Vietnam War: November 1st 1955- April 30th 1975&nbsp;<br><br>- The war was caused by tension from North Vietnam which was communist and South Vietnam which was not<br>- Communist rebels wanted to overthrow the non communist side of Vietnam&nbsp;<br>- Ho Chi Minh was the Communist leader of North Vietnam and served as President<br>- Vietcong was a communist Revolution against South Vietnam and the US forces<br>- Vietnamization was a US policy by Richard Nixon to remove US troops from the Vietnam War and instead train and equip the Southern Vietnam military&nbsp;<br>-&nbsp; The 17th Parallel followed the peace treaty negotiations of Geneva and divided North and South Vietnam&nbsp;<br>- This was a win for the US and democracy because the US defeated most of the Communist groups </div>]]></description>
