- Mormons believe Jesus paid the ultimate price for their sins, and anyone can be saved by faith, repentance, and formal covenants such as baptism, and attempting to live a Christ-like life. They also believe in the trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. A failure of Mormonism included the Kirtland Safety Society. However a success is the church does not come through the ranks of full time clergy.

- For this movement, the leader was Horace Mann who lived from May 4, 1796 to August 2, 1859. Very few areas during this time had public schools paid by taxes, so this resulted in many children not attending school. To educate children and keep them out of danger, reformers like Mann decided to push for the right of public education.

- The very first public school developed in America was in Massachusetts named Boston Latin School. Most states accepted the three basic principles of public education: school should be free and supported by taxes, teachers need to be trained, and children should be required to attend school. These propositions were based on Mann's ideas. The goals of this movement was to provide equal education for each student and to prepare people for their future jobs.

She went other jails in Massachusetts to witness the same punishments. When Dix visited these places, she kept a journal with all the horrors she has experienced.
