         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mineralogist Georgius Agricola used mineral fluorspar in metal refining in 1530. Fluorspar was useful because it combined with the unwanted parts of metal ores, allowing the pure metal to flow and be collected. Several chemists carried out experiments on fluorspar in the early 1800s. They including Gay Lussac, Louis Jacques Thenard, Humphry Davy, Carl Wilhelm Scheele and Joseph Priestley. They produced what they called fluoric acid – now hydrofluoric acid – a highly reactive and very deadly acid. Several early attempts to isolate fluorine led to fatalities and blindings.  In 1809, French scientist Andre-Marie Ampere proposed that fluoric acid was a compound of a new element and hydrogen. He exchanged ideas with Humphry Davy, and in 1813 Davy announced the discovery of the new element fluorine. Fluorine was isolated in 1886, by chemist Henri Moissan. Moissan isolated fluorine by electrolysis of anhydrous hydrofluoric acid and dry potassium hydrogen fluoride .</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fluorine is used in many things you use in everyday life. Sodium fluoride is used in toothpaste and filtrated water to prevent dental cavities. Hydrofluoric acid can dissolve glass and is used to etch designs in glass’s and light bulbs, ect. Hexafluoride became useful in World War II because of its used in processing nuclear fuel. Fluorochemicals are used to make high temperature plastics and fluorine is used to create them. Chlorofluorocarbons used to be used as refrigerants in air conditioning and freezers. Chlorofluorocarbons have been banned because of their contribution to lowering ozone levels. As you can see, fluorine is used in many parts of your daily life. <br><br></div><div> <br><br></div>]]></description>
