Reading is a vital life skill and one which they will continue to develop and improve. We teach and practise strategies at school but it is really important that children regularly read and discuss their reading with an adult at home. Children will bring a book home from the BIG CAT Collins scheme which they can change as often as they need to. We encourage children to read a wide range of books including fiction and non-fiction.

Protective Behaviours

Protective Behaviours at Telford is our framework for personal safety. We teach the Taking Care Project in our PSHE lessons and embed Protective Behaviours into our daily practice. We talk to children about having a safe network of trusted adults and friends, recognising their Early Warning Signs and encouraging them to think about their safe space and what helps them to feel calm, safe and happy.

Reading: Our expectation is that children should read a book from the reading scheme each week.

Spelling: Children will be assigned spellings to learn each week.

On alternate weeks, children will be given a paper activity to support their reading/grammar work.

Maths: Children will be assigned multiplication facts to learn. They will be tested in class and be awarded badges if they complete the questions correctly.

On alternate weeks, children will be given a paper Maths activity to support their learning in school.

Mathletics: Children should aim to achieve 1000 points each week. Sometimes they will be assigned tasks based on the work we are doing in class.

Please can you help your child to remember to bring their reading book into school every day and change it when they have finished.😊
