The 3 parts of Canada were Upper Canada, Lower Canada, and contemporary Canada (Rupert's Land). Their names reflected their positions relative to the headwaters of the St. Lawrence river. Upper Canada was the south-eastern portion of the modern-day Province of Quebec, and the region of the modern-day Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The separation of these parts of Canada was caused by the Constitutional Act of 1791. Now, Upper Canada, Lower Canada, and Rupert's Land are now joined together, forming Canada as a whole country.

These were the colonies that existed before the signing of the 1846 Oregon Treaty: the Province of Canada (previously Upper and Lower Canada), Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Rupert's Land, British Arctic Territories, and the Columbia District/Oregon Country. They were colonized from 1783 until 1867.

The seigneurial was an institutional form of land distribution established in New France in 1627 and has been stopped being used since 1854. In New France, 80 percent of the population lived in rural areas governed by this system of land distribution and occupation. The people who lived in them were French settlers and the inhabitants of French origin who farmed the land along the two shores of the St. Lawrence Gulf and River in what is the present-day Province of Quebec in Canada. The land was monitored by landlords or in this case, they were called seigneurs.

The Treaty of Utrecht brought to an end the War of Spanish Succession between England and France. The War of the Spanish Succession started in 1701 and ended in 1714. The cause of the war was a dispute that occurred over the succession to the throne of Spain following the death of Charles II. The result of the war is that Austria, Great Britain, and the Dutch recognize Philip V as King of Spain but he denies any interest to the throne of France.

The territory was divided into five colonies, which are: Acadia, Louisiana, Canada, Hudson's Bay, and Newfoundland. The reason why Jacques Cartier was in this area was because he was sent by King Francis I to find riches in North America in search of riches. At first, Jacques Cartier was trying to find a route to the Orient but had destroyed the idea on his third voyage.

in Quebec, he found something that looked like to him like gold and diamonds. In the spring, not waiting for the colonists to arrive, Cartier left the base and sailed for France. He stopped at Newfoundland, where he met the colonists, who told Cartier back to Quebec. Jacques Cartier disagreed. Instead of heading to Quebec, he went away during the night and returned to France.
