    "كانتِ السماءُ تشي بليلةٍ صافيةٍ؛ فعزمْتُ على أنْ أشقَّ طريقي نحوَ الرصيفِ النهريِّ. فجأةً، هتفَ صوتٌ إلى جواري: ليلةٌ دافئةٌ. التفَتُّ، فلَمَحْتُ رجُلًا متّكئًا على حاجزِ الرصيفِ النهريِّ بجانبي، كانَ وجهُهُ ذا ملامحَ هادئةٍ، على الرغمِ منْ كونِهِ هزيلًا وشاحبًا، نظرْتُ إليهِ بعينِ الفضولِ وقررْتُ أنْ أجيبَ، فردَّ دونَ أنْ يرفعَ ناظريهِ عنِ النهرِ: مِنَ الجيّدِ أنْ نجدَ مكانًا مُريحًا في البلدةِ، بعدَ يومٍ حافلٍ بالعملِ، لا أدري لماذا أخبرُكَ؟ لكن البَوْحَ بالأمرِ لشخصٍ، سيكونُ مصدرَ سلوًى لي، إنني أمتلكُ مشروعًا تجاريًّا ضخمًا، لكنَّهُ يواجهُ مشكلاتٍ في الوقتِ الحاليِّ، في الحقيقةِ أنا أصنعُ ألماسًا.
    أخرجَ منْ معطفِهِ صُرّةً صغيرةً، وقالَ وهوَ يناولُني إيّاها: هلْ تدري ما هذا؟ منذُ نحوِ عامٍ، قرّرْتُ إشغالَ وقتِ فراغي في الحصولِ على درجةٍ جامعيةٍ في العلومِ؛ لذا لديَّ معرفةٌ بسيطةٌ بالمعادنِ، كانَتِ الحصاةُ تشبهُ ألماسةً خامًّا غيرَ مصقولةٍ، داكنةَ اللونِ، فأخرجْتُ مطواتي وحاولْتُ خدشَها بلا جدوًى، لا شكَّ في أنَّها ألماسةٌ. سألتُهُ: منْ
    أينَ حصلْتَ عليها؟ أجابَني قائلً: لقدْ صنعْتُها كما أخبرتُكَ، سوفَ أبيعُها لكَ مقابلَ مئةِ جُنَيْهٍ.استدارَ الرجلُ قائلًا: أعلمُ أنَّكَ لنْ تصدقَني، تُصْنَعُ الألماساتُ بعزلِ الكربونِ عنْ غيرِهِ منَ الموادِّ، ووضعِهِ في صُهارةٍ مناسبةٍ تحتَ ضغطٍ مناسبٍ، وحينَ يتبلورُ الكربونُ، لا يتحولُ إلى جرافيت أوْ فحمٍ مسحوقٍ، بلْ إلى ألماساتٍ صغيرةٍ،
    وهيَ جواهرُ لا قيمةَ لها؛ لذلكَ بدأْتُ دراسةَ شروطِ صناعةِ الألماسِ حتى توصلْتُ إلى حلٍّ لمشكلةِ تركيبِ الصُّهارةِ، واقتربْتُ منَ الضغطِ المناسبِ، لكنَّني حصلْتُ على ما يشبهُ مسحوقَ الألماسِ، ثمَّ حصلْتُ على أسطوانةٍ فولاذيةٍ، وحشَوْتُها
    بكلِّ الموادِّ اللازمةِ، ثمَّ أوقدْتُ الفرنَ الخاصَّ بصناعةِ الألماسِ الذي حصلْتُ عليهِ منْ تاجرٍ كنْتُ أعملُ عندَهُ، وألقيْتُ الأسطوانةَ داخلَهُ، وفتحتُهاَ منذُ ثلاثةِ أسابيعَ، فالوقتُ عنصرٌ مهمٌّ في التبلورِ، فالبلوراتُ لا تزدادُ حجمًا إلا بمرورِ وقتٍ طويلٍ، وعثرْتُ على عددٍ منها، وجمعْتُ ألماساتي ولُذْتُ بالفرارِ، قلْتُ لَهُ: سيكونُ ضربًا منَ الجنونِ أنْ أشتريَ ألماسًا في ظلِّ تلكَ الظروفِ. هزَّ الرجلُ رأسَهُ مُرْتابًا وطلبَ إليَّ ألاّ أتبعَهُ، وكانَتْ تلكَ المرةَ الأخيرةَ التي أراهُ فيها".                                              قصة صنع الألماس، نيرة محمد صبري، بتصرف

    Interviewer: Why did you decide to write about habits?
    James Clear: Habits are among the most important topics to understand in life for different reasons. First, habits
    can provide external results. They can help you lose weight, increase your income, be more productive, reduce
    stress, and so on.
    You get what you repeat. Habits also shape our identity and beliefs. Another reason I decided to write about
    habits is because I felt there were many books that discuss how habits work from a scientific or philosophical
    level, but there was not yet a book that provided readers with a step-by-step, practical manual for how to
    actually change a habit. My hope is that "Atomic Habits" can be that manual.
    Interviewer: What exactly is an atomic habit?
    James Clear: I chose the phrase “atomic habits” for three reasons.
    The first one you might expect. The word “atomic” can mean tiny or small, like an atom. One of the central
    features of my philosophy is that habits should be small and easy to do.
    The second reason is that the word atomic can also mean “the fundamental unit in a larger system.” Atoms form
    molecules, molecules form compounds, etc. In a sense, habits are like the atoms of our lives. They are small
    routines—fundamental units—that combine into the overall system of our life.
    And finally, atomic can mean “the source of immense energy or power.
