This portrayed Australia as a young and progressive nation. Women from all over the world were thankful for this particular country because it was one of the first countries to give women both the right to vote in federal elections and also the right to be elected to parliament on a national basis. When Australia reached federation, the governors agreed that all women should be given the right to vote except for indigenous women.

1974 | National Wage Case sets an equal female minimum wage.
Leichhardt Women’s Health Centre is the first women’s health centre to open.

1992 | Justice Elizabeth Evatt is the first Australian to be elected to the United Nations Human Rights Committee.

This woman was a suffragist leader, she was a very determined lady that had a huge role in giving women the right to vote. Lowisa was a very resourceful woman who created a newspaper called the Dawn. She formed a newspaper club to help make people aware of women's situations. In 1891 she gave a petition to the parliament and gained 30 000 signatures supporting votes for women

From the 21st century the equality of men and women has improved a lot and not only are women allowed to vote but they are allowed to have their own business instead of being a stay at home Mum. In some countries women are treated differently, they don't have much rights at all. Women's rights has improved tremendously but their is still a lot of third world countries that don't get the same respect as men.
