I have been really liking The Island on Bird Street so far. I am very glad chose this book because it is very interesting, and it has a lot of suspense.
Alex is currently in a bunker with The Gryns. The Gryns are hiding him, and getting him food. Alex used to live in an attic of a house, but now he's with the gryns. In the next chapter he finds a apartment, and everything is in place, like nothing happened to them. I have a prediction that dad is going to come, but, hes going to be injured. I was surprised how Alex took a big kitchen knife with him. I don't know why he brung it, because he already has a gun. I mean, a knife doesn't use ammo, so that would be an upside.
We think that snow, the gun, boruch, and the gryns will all be important things in the story. Uri orlev mentioned The gun right away, and he spent a whole paragraph talking about Alex's mouse, Snow.

I am so glad I chose to read this book! Reading about Alex really puts me in his shoes, and how awful the position he is in, really is.
He has been living in this abandoned house for almost 3 months now, and still has hope his father will come back. But at least he has Snow. Snow is helping him so much. Almost like an "emotional support mouse".
Now, lets talk about the recent events. So, there was recently rioting outside of Alex's hideout. He went to check it out and saw a Nazi soldier with a pistol pointing at a group of Jews. Alex hid behind the building readyed his a aim and shot the soldier 3 times in the body. All of the remaining Jews had already scattered, except one. Later Alex figured out his name, Hendryk. Alex dragged the dead soldier into a barrel, to hide. Hendryk had been shot by the Nazi, Alex decided he could help him out, he helped him off the ground and led him to his hideout. Hendryk was very injured, he had a high fever as well. It was nearing night, so they both went to sleep. The next morning, Alex took his secret passage to the Polish side, where he would find a doctor which he had known prior to the war. Alex told him about Hendryk, and brought him back to the building. Hendryk was most likely going to live but the doctor would check on him frequently.
As we already guessed the pistol was very important. Today we talked in the book club on that, and how us and Alex still have hope the his Dad will survive and come find him. They spent 1-2 chapters talking about there plan of reuniting, and it will really let me down if they don't!

Island on Bird street is a good read. I am glad I chose it. It has a nice storyline. I predict that Alex's father won't come home, because on the back of he book it says that Alex is home alone.

I predict that the gun will be important, and so will Snow. Even though I learned about them at the beginning of the book, there are so many signposts with again and again. The gun hasn't been used yet, but I have a feeling that will change.

Another again and again is the knife. I remember at the beginning of the book, Bourch said that that he wanted a knife. However I feel like a knife would be harder to conceal, and a gun would be better because it is ranged. But I am convinced the knife has a place in the book, because the author never gives you something you don't need.
