         <description><![CDATA[<div>-While Geronimo was away on a trading trip in 1851, Mexican soldiers led by Colonel Jose Maria Carrasco attacked his family’s camp<br>-Geronimo's wife, Alope, and their three children were all murdered<br>-Many other people were murdered as well and Geronimo was a lucky survivor<br>-This tragedy made him despise anyone who attempted to subject him or his people<br>-He then hunted down his family’s killers and devoted his life to avenging them<br>-He defended his land and people against attacks by Mexican soldiers and the southwestern United States during the 1870's and 1880's</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-In 1885 Geronimo led 135 Apache followers to escape from the reservation<br>-In order to not be captured, he often pushed his group to travel as far as 70 miles per day<br>-While they were free, they raided Mexican and American settlements sometimes killing civilians<br>-In March of 1886, General George Crook forced Geronimo to surrender, but at the last minute, Geronimo and 40 followers escaped under cover of darkness<br>-5,000 U.S troops and 3,000 mexican troops tried to capture them<br>-They kept secret for 5 months until Geronimo turned himself in to General Nelson Miles in September 1886<br>-Geronimo and his fellow captives were sent to the Comanche and Kiowa reservation in Oklahoma<br>-Geronimo spent 14 years in the reservation only leaving when the government allowed him</div>]]></description>
