Also, another takeaway with to life your life with purpose. The director made this film to reflect the hardships of daily life that not many people realize. He wanted to get across the feeling of that father-son relationship and how and why it kept him going on with his life.

They wanted you to think twice about it and it really had that effect. the bias here would be that some viewers only see the fight for ALS and not the complete story behind it.

I think that it really has an effect how the director put the video of Rivers blowing out the candles right before gleason has trouble breathing. A major part of this movie relates to the conversation of healthcare and what needs to be done.
