"the formation of 'black' and 'white' categories during the u.s, chattel slavery had a lasting significance on American society and continued to evolve across the national landscape throughout the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries"

"In such a diverse society where we seek to regard the complexity and humanity of all racial groups, why does everything always have to be so black-and-white?! "
Anita Baar- this quote resonates with me because when we first meet people we judge them base on the color of their skin. there are many things that we can used to view people on, but black and white is all we see at first sight. We decides in how head how to approach that person, how to do or say things around that person and the list goes on. We determine things about people based on the color of their skin before we even talk to them.

This quote resonates with me because growing up with a black mother and a white father I was exposed to both racial groups. As I got older and started to understand racism as it is, I became very uncomfortable and felt out of place as if I didn't belong anywhere. A sudden change happened and I realized people seen the color of my skin and judged me before even getting to know me as a person. I started to fall victim to the false stereotypes of being a black women and I also started to realized that the white community in general disregarded me. - Niome

"I used to believe that in order commit to racial justice, I have deep knowledge of all racial groups."

Tala Abdellatif
Sam Holdsworth
Antoine Lainer
Niome Jackson
Anita Baar

I remember my mom pointing out to me 1 or 2 black kids on the website to make me feel more comfortable about going. Regardless of the school efforts to include black people they were extremely racist on a everyday basis.
intro
"the time for inscribing new futures is now. The authority

Chapter 1
" If my 15-year old self were to stand before the mirror of Erised, weighing 259 pounds at 5 feet tall, with dark brown skin and glasses, i would have seen a slim, shapely teenaged young women, with long, flowing hair and hazel eyes.
<var>
</var>
chapter 2
"In my approach to facilitation in such spaces, it is more important to create space for people to wrestle with difficult racial questions that we rarely have the opportunity to discuss openly than for me to pretend that I have come with some fixed singular answer to the question of white privilege."
Yash D: This quote resonates with me because I'm a person of color who is not African but from a completely different country coming into the United States. And for me it has been hard to understand the racism in the country like white privilege. And as a outside person I can't ask some racial questions openly. Luckily my roommate was black and helped me understand the ongoing problem in the country.

Pre face: "Lack of diversity in curriculum and pedagogical approaches"
Chapter 1: "in reality, the deep impact of my childhood obesity would wrap itself up and through my blackness and my womanhood like a sprawling ivy"
Chapter 2: "my goal is not to reify white privilege by coddling the comfort levels of the white folks in the room"
These quotes resonates with me because, for the first quote because throughout my whole life in school there was never a curriculum based towards my community; the black community It was always one little section inside which was about slavery, they never praised our accomplishments or made us look like the heros in any textbook.
Chapter one quote resonates with me because being a black female child growing up obese is actually negatively looked at in the black community and also frowned upon regardless, its like you can't ever win, you're a women in a mysognist world, obese in a world that centers its pride on a certain type of standard with bodies that society hold and you're black, in a world that will never love you. there is no winning, if I wasn't getting bullied at school I was getting bullied by society basically.
and for Chapter 2 the quotes resonates with me because typically when im asked for my opinion on a conserversal topic or something that isn't normally talked about while in a room full of white people or non-black people I tend to watch how I answer my questions and what I say to not make them feel uncomfortable , I basically coddle their feelings which I end up regretting later on after I think about It.

Jacqueline Galindo-Carreon

"I refused to be the face of color on the brochure of this school while I experience unaddressed racism here every single day!" (2).

I chose this quote from the preface because an awful flashback came back to mind when I read this. When I first saw this quote along with my group members, I realized that this is something that tends to happen often just to make the school, a company, or even a post on social media to look good to others. In high school, every senior had to come up with a quality of life issue and come up with a possible solution to that issue and present it to the school board. During those four years, teachers expected me to do my worse such as every Hispanic student would do. In my school, Hispanics were viewed as troublemakers, not caring about our education, or simply as girls who got pregnant by the age of 15/16. Eventually, once I presented my issue and solution, they were all surprised by my hard work and dedication that I eventually became one of the semi-finalists. When they saw me as a semi-finalist, they were surprised and I remember them asking if it was okay for them to take my picture and my project to be on the school newspaper. Although I was flattered and all for my hard work and dedication, I couldn't let them do it knowing they expected much less of me and saw me as someone who was didn't take my education and future career seriously. From that day, it only made me become stronger and work even harder and not be pushed or viewed negatively based on my ethnicity.

"...anti blackness is global and all over the world whiteness is a powerful signer of privilege and hierarchy."

This quote resonates with me ans it's very easy to understand, does not require the background text around the quote to understand it, and is true.

Many people associate race issues as primarily in the United States. Although race tensions may be present less in other places in the world, they still exist throughout the planet, not just in the United States, this is a global issue.

"

This quote resonates with me because of the message that is really gives off a good point. In todays society all everyone hears about when it comes to races, is black and white. This world is filled with people coming from different races and they are always labeled as what the society says it is ought to be. whether it's from the color of their skin to the foods we eat to what we look like.

Chapter 1:
“Healing is not the absence of pain it is the decision to act in the service of your development rather than your defeat.”

This quote resonates with me on both a physical level and a mental level. Throughout my life I have had many issues with my body, whether I broke my arm or my wrist, not being able to hear out of my left ear for several weeks or needing surgery on my finger when I was 3 that still effects me to this day I thing I have dealt with quite a bit. Not as much as many others but more than maybe the average person. What I learned through all of this is that these problems aren't walls that stop you from proceeding to your destination but are merely barriers or hurdles we must climb over and overcome. The same goes for emotional or mental stress. Again I have dealt with quite a bit. Most of it I do no not feel comfortable talking about however. The difference between this and physical however is not only the obvious but that mental health eats at you slowly and instead of healing with time like a broken bone, it can get worse and worse. A good way to overcome it is to outweigh the negatives with positives and see how the situation can help even if you need to life to yourself in order to do so.

Chapter 1: "Many of us leave homes where the most toxic, unbalanced relationships fester as they intersect with our personal mental health issues, childhood trauma, triggers, and systemic oppression and then enter into our classrooms confused about why we cannot find balance in any aspect of our work."

This quote resonates with me because I've gone through trauma in my life, and I thought that pushing the pain aside and ignoring it would help me move on. It wasn't until the depression kicked in, and I began to feel excessively drained (mentally and physically) that I began to come to terms with the trauma I experienced. I know many people can relate to this feeling, but bottling up those emotions is not healthy. We have many broken, hurting people in our generation because we refuse to confront our pain. Instead, we choose to make memes and jokes about the trauma we face. Unfortunately, this is why many adolescents transition into adulthood, still suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders—acknowledging that pain and accepting that you need help will benefit you in the long run.

Racism in America is being fought hardly by African Americans and other races who are against it as well. Others that might also be against racism but are silent against this fight are also apart of the problem. In order to illuminate this black white continuum like stated we must first eliminate the racism going on in America.

chapter 1- "Healing is not the absence of pain , it is the decision to act in the service of your development rather than your defeat."

This quote resonates with me because from the ages of 12-17 I dealt with self hatred, not loving my natural kinky hair and not loving my complexion. Over time I have learned to love and appreciate myself inside and out. Healing mentally is a process and if one wants to truly heal they must be willing. In the African American community there is a lot of self hatred, due to colorist ways of thinking and old ideologies that still exist today.

In my opinion Black women have to work much harder than anyone else. There is a constant battle with Black women having to prove why we belong and why we deserve to be in positions of leadership and significance. My gender, body type, racial identity all help me with how I perceive the world.

This specific quote resonated with me because being a young black woman in today's society is so hard because our culture and appearance doesn't always fit social norms. In a society where everything a black woman does is looked down upon, it is essential to always love yourself even if it isn't what everyone is praising.

Within life are purpose are meant to help others but alongside helping other you have to help yourself first cause what good is helping other if you can't even find solution to fix yourself. Yes it's important to help other but at the same time not everybody can play hero's sometime your gonna be the one who needs saving so try to balance your life out first. It's kind of my perspective on life right now.

I know life is filled with sadness and a lot of people are filled with darkness but if you let it stop from moving forward you'll just bring yourself down. As a young black male when ever I get pulled over by cops they automatically assume I am doing something criminal. One time me and my friends were getting pulled over and the cop called for back up where at least five other cars arrived on the scene. As I was taken out the car a copped look at me and said "alright where is the gun?" This is where the white privilege comes in cause I was talking to a white male about this story and I said you know this wouldn't happen if I was white and he insisted the skin color did not matter and we all know that it does.

I mean come on now!

This quote resonates with me because I understand through the use of words the feeling that is being established by the author. I understand the frustration the author has experienced when she says "come on now" , because white people are more likely to deny that this is a fact. White people tend to have more of an advantage in many aspects of life compared to minority groups because of their skin color. For example white people are less likely to be followed in a store, more likely to get a job, over minorities and less harassed by cops. I believe that this is just because the fact that they are white.

In todays life a lot of the things that have been going on in society are racial related. Recently we have seen black lives matter movements due to the injustice that has aroused between white police officers and black people. Not just police officers but "white vs black" in general. It's sad to say but this has been going on for many years now and it is starting to happen more often just as it did in the past.

It seems that the Autor wants to show that the reality of his story is suffering from obesity while calling himself dark chocolate at the beginning of the sentence returns to the main purpose of this quote. That reminds me of a video clip from grate Mohammad Ali who was mentioning that he was always wondering and asking his mom that, why everything bad has a black name on it. While he was the champions of the world but could not eat in a restaurant in his town. Growing up a child of an Immigrant can be hard sometimes. You struggle with having to adjust with 2 different cultures and identities. As a teenager you are going to find a way to express yourself. Without really accepting who you are, it's going to be hard to go through life. I often felt like I struggled to find out who I was because I was entirely too worried about my looks. I have very dar skin. It's easy to distinguish me from the crowd and notice that I have a different ethnic background from my friends. I felt like because I had some very dark skin, that I was ugly and that no one would accept me for that reason. Little did I know that my beautiful dark skin was something that I would have to accept because it's not going anywhere. I am not going to get any lighter. I needed to start uplift and believe in myself and understand that my skin was apart of me. I would have to love it regardless.

Something that everybody needs to realize in themselves is that trying to look strong for others isn't what makes you strong. It isn't what allows you to heal. What allows you to heal is accepting the fact that you're hurt but taking that frustration and using it to better yourself and your situation. While you're not the only person who can help you, you -are- the only person that can allow yourself to heal.

I'm going through an extremely difficult time having left my abusive ex-boyfriend. I was pretty reliant on him as he somewhat isolated me from my other support systems. After I left him I kept going through self doubt, wanting to appear strong to my friends, but feeling miserable behind closed doors.
