This is a phrase used to describe the first ways children engage with language. Environmental print, or words, on signs and posters and labels and ads, are all over the place. Becoming literate in our society is the first step to a number of opportunities and meaningful ways of engaging with others in our world. Exposure to environmental print has a significant impact on a young learner's future (and current) literacy.

2) "Our Favorite Things" Word Wall. This is a great option for families on the go! Using poster paper, dedicate part of a main room wall to "Our Favorite Things", where each member of the family cuts out the label or brand name of an item and tapes or glues it onto the poster paper. Then, the person responsible writes their name under the label. This can be a fun way to provide your young learner an updating list of meaningful words pertinent to their own life.
