This is just a small portion of it, the entirety of the building is covered in artwork, harsh realities, and activist ideas. Many people would look down upon the sort of language used on the building, or the fact that it is graffiti. As time goes by, the building becomes more and more covered with art and graffiti. I assume most of the locals in the neighborhood are used to it by now. Although there has been some normalization of the graffiti world, for the most part I believe it is still looked down upon. Our presentation of self is the idea that we try to manage other people's impression of ourselves. We make an effort to create specific impressions in the mind of others. In the picture shown here you will see flowers and a "gingerbread" house. My girlfriend was sent home from college after a covid outbreak to take her final exams. I bought her these flowers and house as a gift to make her feel better. It was not until a day later that I realized this was an example of self presentation of self. While I did this for her, it helps her to actively form an impression of me. Like a lot of the different things we do in relationships. This image is supposed to be representative of what a family looks like. It is interesting that from the time we are young we are really taking in heteronormative messaging.  Consistently we see how straight couples are represented in the media, books, newspapers, etc. This can be something that is challenging for queer people, representation is key to exposure and acceptance in my opinion. Heteronormativity is the belief that heterosexuality is and should be the norm. When we see that there is a lack of coverage surrounding queer relationships and queer families we can see how the belief that heterosexuality should be the norm is displayed.  I think that this image also displays gender roles. Here the woman is feeding the baby while her husband plays with the other child. Gender roles are the set of socially constructed, socially defined, and culturally specific expectations for being a man and a woman. By promoting the vaccine we are hoping that we will get other people to join us in getting it. It is a look everyone is doing. It is a sort of motto developed in order to get others to join the movement. In this image we see that a person is expressing their gender through the beautiful makeup they have done on their face and we can see that their hair is done very nicely. We are all tuned in to some extent by just being members of society. One person's way of being sociologically mindful may be to pay attention to current events or read the paper in order to find out what is happening in the world around them. If they have some sort of knowledge of power dynamics, inequalities, etc they are keeping up with the social world in some ways. Being sociologically mindful looks very different for everyone. For some people it may be being kinder to their friends when they are having a tough time, for others it may be going out and protesting for change, and for others it may be as simple as picking up the newspaper and learning something new about social inequality. It really made me think about myself, my upbringing and how I have become the person I am today. Throughout this reading we learned some new terms. We learned about the idea of the looking glass self which is when individuals base their sense of self on how we believe others see and view us. An identity crisis is when we question our sense of self or place in the world. In order to overcome these challenging aspects of life we must find things that fulfill our own individual and not the needs of others. I feel like I am frequently questioning my place in the world but it is through meaningful hobbies like drawing and reading that I am able to feel like I can find a place in this world, or at least a way to escape it. The same goes for the idea of the looking glass self. In order to find a sense of self that does not involve the opinion of others, I need to look inward and find things that satisfy my own personal needs. This is a photo I took of a bookshelf that you see when you first enter the house of the family I nanny for. I clearly can see how after being involved with their family for a long period of time the front stage presentation started to fade and I would be let in to see what was going on backstage. Backstage is what takes place out of view of the audience, this is temper tantrums, tired overwhelmed mornings, the things you don't want outsiders to see. But in this photo we can see how people want to represent themselves as put together, no one is placing photos of their child screaming and crying on their bookshelves. This image also embodies a nuclear family, a Nuclear family is a heterosexual couple with one or more children living in a singular household. The term mcdonaldization refers to the business model adapted by McDonalds and the fast food industry that focuses on efficiency, predictability , calculability and control. We can see how in our society fast food restaurants and other stores are located in a central location to maximize efficiency and control.In this image it is hard to see, but this street is lined with other fast-food chains, Dunkin' Donuts, dominoes, McDonalds, etc,  When we locate stores and different chains next to one another it encourages people to shop more while  maximizing efficiency.

We see this binary exist when we are using public restrooms, thinking about sports teams, and referring to others. It is an idea that owns a lot of the older generations' minds. There must only be two genders because that is what we know, but besides sports teams and restrooms I really don't see how the binary is used in any helpful way. It shows the difference between personal problems and public issues. This made me think of mental health issues and how there has been an uptick in them since the pandemic. As a result of this, there have been new discoveries such as online therapy that have been a helpful recourse to the mass amount of people experiencing mental health struggles. I feel like since there has been such an uprising that mental health struggles have almost turned into a public issue.
