Orchestra Piece - Waltz No. 2

Although not inherently meant to be an orchestral piece, Waltz No. 2 is still one of my favorite pieces we played in orchestra during my sophomore year in PRHS. I have always liked Waltz pieces such as The Blue Danube and others from the likes of Strauss and Tchaikovsky, but this particular piece was very catchy and personally fun to play. I took a heavy liking to the melody of this piece and how it wasn't even particularly difficult to play either. When listening and playing this piece, a sense of fullness follows.

Family

When thinking of family, plenty of pieces come to mind, but Chopin's beautiful Waltz in A minor likely takes the cake for this category. It's easily recognizable and has a sense of familiarity, like how family is. The piece in my opinion is very consistent and unwavering, playing the same melody over and over again. I feel as though it is representative of my own family's stable and consistent life. The piece itself is fairly short as well, which reminds me of the short and sweet attitudes and mindset of a lot of my family members.

Piece I Enjoy

Personally speaking, Saint-Saens is definitely one of my favorite composers of all time, with his various pieces like Danse Macabre, Carnival of the Animals, etc. However, I like this particular piece because of the sudden changes in play styles, tempo, and the general mood it creates. It's very classical and grand in the beginning, but turns more short and upbeat later on. The piano accompaniment is pleasant to listen to as well, going very nicely with the elaborate violin solo. I also admire how hard it is to play this piece, and find myself listening to it sometimes in my free time.

Jupiter: Bringer of Jollity is incredibly well known and quite cliche in a sense, but just like the title suggests, it brings jollity and uplifts my emotions. It has a very grand beginning and loud, encouraging notes. The piece is very stimulating, including the slower part towards the middle of the piece. The music never gets dull and offers new melodies every few minutes. The piece overall is very dynamic and motivating.
