For many centuries the purple thistle has been Scotland's national emblem.

There is a legend that explains why it became the Scottish emblem.
Accordingto that legend, ancient Scandinavians (the Norsemen) wanted to plunder theland of Scotland and settle there. So, they landed on the east coast ofScotland.

The Scots gathered their army to defend the land. They assembled behindthe river Tay and made a camp to have rest after a long march.

The Scotswere sleeping and did not expect the enemies.

When the Norsemen decided to attack the Scots, they took their shoes off notto make noise. But one of the Norsemen stepped on a thistle. That suddenand sharp pain made him scream. So the Scots heard this "alarm" and put theNorsemen to fight.

That is how the thistle became the emblem of Scotland.

The Abbey of Dulce Cor, better known as Sweetheart Abbey
The abbey, located on the banks of the River Pow , was founded by Dervoguilla af Galloway in memory of her husband. After his death, she kept his embalmed heart, contained in a casket of ivory and silver, with her for the rest of her life, and it was buried alongside her when she died. In line with this devotion to her late husband, she named the abbey Dulce Cor (Latin for Sweet Heart). Their son, also John, became King of Scotland, but his reign was tragic and short.https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/sweetheart-abbey/
