All the jews were deported and Elie Wiesel was on the 3rd round of deportation. The burning flesh was the Jews. I couldn't believe that they could smell the burning. In chapter 2 eyes are referred to 3 times all of those times its always a blak gaze, piercing eyes, and how their eyes opened too late. This is showing how you can tell something by someones eyes. How looking at someone's eyes will tell whats going on. Elie saw people going into the pit of fire and baby's going in too. The quote "Never shall I forget these flames which consumed my faith forever" meant that after Elie saw that hes starting to question his faith. Elie changed by when his father was beat he just stood there and a few days ago he would've fought back. His first impression of Aushwitz after Birkenau was that it was nice and better than where he was. Bela Katz was forced to put people into the crematorium and had to burn his dad. Formalities they had to go through was be disinfected and take a hot shower also stand during roll call for a long time. The identification they used was tattoos of numbers. The prisoner in charge of Elie's block was removed because he was too nice. The rations at each meal was at breakfast black coffee, at lunch soup, and for dinner bread. The irony of the gate says "Arbeit Mack Frie" which means work will set you free but none of them were gonna get out.
