By: Kate, Jennifer, Larissa, Marvin & Sandy

How do we remember?

A helpful example to support "how do we remember?" was the Apple Pie Recipe. Rather than reciting to someone every single step within a recipe, chunking information together is a great way to allow learners the chance to focus on a single section at a time. This ensures that we are following alongside germane; ensuring that we are not overwhelming the learner with unnecessary or an flood of information.

Another point is the message that "consistency is good, variety is good, but too much of either one is bad". Therefore, being able to find that happy medium through repetitious behavior is another great way for learners to not only grasp but retain information.

Finally, we discussed that storytelling is another great concept to support remembering. Playing on the example Sandy provided in our lecture, relating the story of the Three Little Pigs to the instruction in her classroom, "storytelling leverages an existing framework". It gives our students the chance to understand and connect the dots as to where things need to go by utilizing that already acquired information towards building on new found knowledge.
