In this activity, students will spell out their name using play dough and their hands. Depending on the age group, students will have a sheet in front of them that has their name written out so they can mimic. This activity will help them start to gain a sense of identity by understanding that everyone has their own name that connects to their individual identity. Instructor should not help the students hands-on with this activity, rather, they can go around to each student and ask the student to tell them what letters are in their name as they are working with the play dough.

An example of what the students should be trying to accomplish in linked down below in the image. This link is an optional letter board students could use to place their play dough on (If the instructor wishes to purchase these):
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Playdough-Mats-Name-Activity-EDITABLE-2924080?epik=dj0yJnU9a3hyZDVFTUZRVlhDdjY3V2dQbVRvMXIwdlBvT2EzdDImcD0wJm49T0FjN3Vva2k5N3F5VHQzanBwcmpVUSZ0PUFBQUFBR0JqekRr

Replicating Hand Prints with Paint

Instructors will help each student by placing their hand into a tray of paint. The students can choose whatever color paint they desire. The teacher would then have the student place their hand prints on a blank sheet on paper. Once the stamped hand print dries, the students will then write their name above or below their handprint and they will turn their handprint into something. For example, they can turn it into a butterfly, a flower, a turkey, etc. This goes along with learning ones identity because it helps them see what their handprints look like replicated in front of them. They can identify how many fingers they have, which fingers are longer than others, etc.

This lesson plan is a similar version to what I had in mind:
https://arttoremember.com/about/lesson-plan/hand-stamp-painting/

Before this activity, the instructor should cut out shapes that replicate hair, eyes, nose, mouth, and a face from different colored construction paper. During this activity the students objective is to create a replication of themselves based off their specific features. For example, if the student has blue eyes, they would glue the blue cut outs where the eyes are on their construction paper figure. Eventually they should have a replication of themselves. During this activity, the instructor should walk around and ask questions such as, "What color are your eyes?", "What color is your hair?", etc. This will help the students learn to describe themselves in concrete ways.

Similar lesson plan to what I had in mind:
https://www.deepspacesparkle.com/paper-portraits/

In this activity, students will each be given a mirror. The students will study themselves and point out traits they observe. The instructor should walk around to each student and ask questions such as, "What color are your eyes?", "What color is your hair?", etc. The teacher should then ask questions that promote deeper thinking such as, "What makes you unique?" and "What is your favorite feature about yourself?". This activity promotes positive self-esteem in children and also helps them understand their concrete traits. The students will then be asked to draw themselves on a piece of paper using markers or crayons. They should keep the mirror in front of them as they are doing so.

Similar lesson plan idea:
http://artandsoulpreschool.blogspot.com/2013/03/self-portraits.html?m=1

Acrostic Name Poem

To start this activity, the teacher should talk one on one with each of his/her students. The teacher should ask quality questions such as, "How would your best friend describe you?", "What makes you you?", and "What makes you unique?". The students will then be given a piece of paper that has their name written vertically. The students will be asked to come up with traits for each letter of their name. For example, for a name starting with the letter "C", the student could come up with traits that they think describe the, such as caring, considerate, cool, etc. This lesson plan allows students to think about how they perceive themselves and how they think others perceive them. The instructor can help guide the students through this lesson by ensuring they only say positive things.

Example lesson plan using acrostic poems:
https://www.brighthubeducation.com/lesson-plans-grades-3-5/14256-acrostic-poem-lesson-plan/
