The where of something by Laura Frood

“What is missing from our dwellings today are the potential transactions between body, imagination, and environment…To at least some extent every place can be remembered, partly because it is unique, but partly because it has affected our bodies and generated enough associations to hold it in our personal worlds.”
– Kent Bloomer and Charles Moore (1977)

How can we re-humanise places that have been depopulated?

I went there on the last really sunny day of summer and felt such heightened (by lockdown?) joy being in among the trees and the light and the rustling. I played there as a kid, and while I always liked the sensation of being in among the trees, I wouldn't have articulated it or event thought about it like I do now. How much does our appreciation of place change as we get older, and how much is it our way of thinking about or articulating it that changes?
