To improve the film, we needed to include at least 10 different kinds of shots and camera movements. Our class learned after our first film the different types of angles to be shot at, camera movements, and shots. Our terminology and film vocabulary improved drastically from film 1 to 2 and it is shown throughout our second attempt. The plot of the film given to us was an outbreak of a killer among a friend group, and then it being resolved with another man of powers who is more humble and caring. Our group decided to change this up by giving more background on how the lead killer gained his powers, and we made our man of powers be Jesus. We included many different shots such as close ups, wide shots, establishing shots, long shots, over the shoulder shots, and we included special effects and many different angles at which we shot in to create a mood for the scene. The role I played was a background person, and the person who resolved all the killing with suggesting we needed Jesus to help us.
Our groups second film had great creativity and really improved the first groups film. Our audio, filming, and acting skills evidently excelled as well. What our group needed to work on though was speaking up especially when filming outside, and not making direct eye contact with the camera as much. Audio seems to be an issue when filming outside, but we can surely speak up more. As for our shots, We decided to use a close up when Matthew, our lead, made the deal to get the powers. It created suspense and showed this would be important. We used a high angle shot at the end when we all praised Jesus because it gives the feeling of accomplishment to the audience since we had just defeated a killer. We studied various genres of movies such as musicals, mysteries, horrors, super heroes, romances, dramas, crime, adventure, sports, thriller, war movies, animation, comedy, and science fiction. When learning the presented genres, we studied the conventions (stories, characters and their representations, setting, iconography, an values), codes (cinematic elements including camera work, lighting, editing, and special effects), and audience expectations (emotions and reactions). Along with learning all three properties, we watched three movie clips from three different time periods from each genre. Some clips were hybrid clips, meaning they highlighted not only one genre. A popular hybrid would be action comedy. 
      Reflecting on my groups films, we realized our first film would be classified under the drama category. Our plot included a high school setting with student characters and our plot included a stalker stalking one of the students. During this film we included several elements: long shots, two shots, tracking shots, wide shots, and panning shots. The tracking shots were used to show the victim walking without knowing the stalker is following behind her. The panned shots used were to show the stalker creeping up and hiding in areas while watching the girl. Using all these elements, we reached our expectations. We wanted our audience to feel like they are jumping out of their seats telling the main character to "open her eyes" or "turn around" to realize she is being stalked. Our second film was an action film. The film was about an average teenage boy, Matthew,  who was insecure about not fitting in, being gifted super powers by another individual who disappeared mysteriously after handing over the powers. Matthew ended up abusing his powers and going on a killing spree. It ended with Jesus saving us all. We used elements such as special effects, close ups, wide shots, two shots, depth, tracking shots, and long shots. The depth was to show Matthew using his super powers to grab a carton of milk from afar. The close ups were to show seriousness within the deal that was made with Wade and Matthew in the beginning of the film. We also included special effects to show Matthews adapted super powers and how they worked.  Throughout the film we wanted the audience to feel like they were on the edge of their seats and as they were apart of the situation. 
      As all genres were exciting to learn about in depth, my favorite genre is romance. For my group though, a great sypnosis to film would be an action comedy film. I feel we did an exceptional job with the action genre in our second film, and adding comedy would entertain us and our audience. This would include the first two minutes of a film with indents, credits, and logos. As a group with the action comedy genre, exploring and using fast cuts, special effects, color, and close ups would be a great experience as this genre includes all of them. These certain conventions would benefit a comedy action film. The audience will feel enlighted and in a good  up beat mood since it is a comedy.

We studied film and editing concepts and created documents containing 20+ kinds of editing techniques. We also watched multiple documentaries including "A cutting edge", a film on editing and use of color and "Making Waves", a film on sound. We also read the script for "The Incredibles" to learn more about scripts and created our own screenplay using Arc Studios, a script writing app. We are now creating a 1-2 minute horror film about an unconscious' persons nightmare for our midterm project.

Our Midterm must include conventions of a Horror or Horror hybrid film. It requires minimal dialouge  (mostly music, sound effects/ambience); no wall-to-wall music; no long takes; start in black with company ident and/or logo and title and (optional) credits before straight cut or dissolve to first image; minimum of three crosscuts between actor and nightmare; edited/shot/uploaded by student; accompanying blog post. The film must also include one  close up; one dutch angle; one high or low angle; one low key light set up or one silhouette; one pan or tilt or track/push or spinaround; one zoom or dolly zoom;  one subliminal cut or multitake or smash cut; one match cut; one  J cut or L cut; one use of slow or fast motion; one intentional use of color for story/emotion; one instance of intentional use of costume/hair/makeup; one instance of visual complexity in setting choice (color, texture, depth, lines, shapes, etc.); three sound effects; one piece of incidental music or one sound motif repeated three times.  Extra credit to include: quick cuts; montage; wide establishing shot; split screen; POV shot; reflection shot; intentional break of the fourth wall; intentional break of the rule of thirds; rack focus or pull focus shot; intentional use of handheld camera work; use of color filters to create a dream like quality; fisheye lens or fisheye effect; high quality graphic.  

In order to adhere to horror conventions, codes, and audience expectation/ engagement, I put my main character in a isolated place to comply with basic horror conventions and decided he would be a professional soccer player. The first part of my film relates to success in the MLS. The main character seems to spiral into his dream. I feel the point I was trying to get across was how his career would be over due to this injury.

I feel I was successful in capturing the injury without actually mentioning it or showing it. By just using sound audiences can just make inferences. Using the gasping sound and the sad music at the beginning of the film brought the point across on its own. I was less successful when it came to the actor I used. He had never acted before so it was tricky to try and capture all the emotions I wanted to. To make this film I used Arc Studios, for the screenplay format, IMovie for editing, and Youtube, for different sounds. I did not realize how much time and energy would go into creating a 1 minute film. I underestimated the stamina and commitment that has to go into it. In the first two minutes of 16 Wishes it starts with upbeat music, and a black screen with white wording that presents the production company. It quickly then cuts to the title of the movie and a close up of Abby (the min character) sleeping. It then zooms into posters in her room and reveals credits. She then wakes up and goes to her closet where a poster for her wishes on her 16th birthday are posted. 
2. The genre for this movie is Y/A (young adult). The target audience for this film would be mostly females. 
3. The opening credits and title sequence go together with the theme of this movie. They appear along with young 2000s music and a graphic font. The color of the font is white. This all ties along together with the theme and age of this movie. Visually, the first two minutes go from a fade in with the presentation of production company, to a shot of Abby's room presenting the "16 Wishes" title, to a close up of Abby sleeping, and fast to slow motion cuts presenting credits. After the credits it goes into Abby waking up on her 16th birthday and going to her closet where the poster of all her 16th birthday wishes are presented. 
4. The sound throughout the first two minutes is an upbeat young 2000s stereo type song that is non-diegetic. 
5. In the end of the tow minutes, she pins a picture of her crush onto the poster. The poster then sparkles and she closes the closet door and on the other side of the closet is her parents and brother surprising her with a birthday cake, her dad begins to tear up. The sparkle of the picture being pasted left us hanging. Why did the poster shine once she put a picture of her crush on there? 
6. The editing style was definitely high contrast. It has so much color in it and it shows throughout her room, and the birthday wishes poster. 
7. The first two minutes adheres to conventions by showing a stereotypical 16 year old girl on her birthday. 
8. The film breaks with conventions by using the boy crush. She is boy crazy over this Joey character. And them including him and making the poster sparkle when she places his picture on the wish list breaks conventions. 
9. The first two minutes really includes the stereotypical 16 year old girl. The way she woke up, her room design, her crush and the wish poster for her 16th birthday all ties into what people categorize 16 year old's to be like.

We will open our film with a fade in of an image that resonates with our film, with our production name and and film title worded in a colorful bubble font, and then a fade out to our first scene. Our final film is about a young adult wishing life to be easier after a bad test score, and he wakes up as a young boy the following day. He only realizes when he looks in the mirror. For the realization mirror scene we will use a match cut and close ups of his young features as he grows younger. An over the shoulder shot will occur when he is looking at his new reflection in the mirror. Our vision and inspiration has been influenced by reviewing other movies in the Y/A category such as 16 Wishes, Senior Year, 13 Going on 30, and 17 Again as these were the films analyzed for our previous project in class. All of these movies included stereotypical teenagers and we will include that in our film. We will also include colorful fonts when presenting credits, production company, and the film title because all the films included these. 
Our logo will look very colorful and young 2000s style. A lot of Y/A movie settings are in the early 2000s and use fonts and objects in movies that resonate with that era. We will most likely create it on IMovie. 
For transitions, many fade in and outs and wipes will be used. These lively transitions shine through the Y/A genre and really propose a young adult and lively mood. For sound considerations, we will include non- diegetic music in the beginning of the film when presenting our production company and film title. We may bring it into the first scenes if we want to use the first few scenes as a background scene where the setting and plot will be established/introduced. Sound effects will be used such as alarm clock ringings, school bells, and a few gasps/applauses. Our group does not plan on using a copyrighted song, or a copyrighted song for over 1 minute.
