For the children who will be staying in nursery in September we will continue to develop their phonological awareness skills. This will involve activities that support their abilaity to listen and distingusih between different sounds, recognising syllables in words, continuning a rhyming string for example.

Speaking like Fred helps children to understand that words are made up of sounds.

In nursery, we use Fred Talk in games and throughout the day to help children practise blending sounds together.

Parents/Carers, please note -

When playing the Fred talk games, if your child is not yet able to blend the sounds to make the whole word, please don't worry, it is something that just needs practise, keep going. 

Help them by modelling the blending of sounds to make whole words, this will be great for their development. 

Children begin to use a wider variety of vocabulary as they connect with words simply and deeply through the rhythm of a poem.

We create actions to reinforce the language and its meanings, making it is easy for the children to absorb these new words so effortlessly.

This will probably be for around 30 minutes each time and we will show them where they hang their coats and where to find the toilets.

The Nursery children are aware of the Reception learning environments as we walk through them to the lunch hall everyday.

We hope by doing this they will be excited for the next step in their learning journey and for them to feel comfortable and aware of where they will be going in September.

You and your child are invited to a Teddy Bears' Picnic on Wednesday 8th July 4pm - 5pm.

This is an opportunity to spend time with your child and their new teacher and other children in their class.

The dates are:

Monday 8th June - afternoon session

Friday 19th June - afternoon session

Wednesday 24th June - afternoon session

Thursday 2nd July - afternoon session

Monday 6th July - morning session

Please ensure you child has clothing suitable for the weather on that day (waterproof coat, leggings / joggers, sunhat, wellies).
