-Bairam Khan managed the affairs of the empire for about four years.Akbar dismissed Bairam Khan and took the power into his hands and embarked upon a policy of conquests and annexation for the expansion of his empire.

-Akbar brought Malwa under the Mughal rule. 
- At about the same time , he occupied the kingdom of Gondwana or Garh-Katanga. The kingdom comprises the Narmada valley and the northern part of the present day Madhya Pradesh.
- He annexed the major part of Rajasthan by subduing Ranthambore , Jodhpur , Bikanerand Jaisalmer.
- The conquest of Gujurat was significant due to many reasons. It's fertile soil , greatly developed crafts and furthermore , it was an important centre of import export trade with the outside world . As a result , Akbar occupied Surat and Ahemdabad and brought them under Mughal suzerainity.
- Akbar turned towards Bengal , which continued to be a domain by the Afghans. He defeated Daud Khan, the Afghan ruler and expanded the Mughal empire.
- Akbar's policy in the north -west resulted in the annexation of Kashmir, Sindh, Bauchistan and Kandahar to his empire. 
- The Mughal annexation of Berar, Khandesh,and the portion of Ahmednagar extended Akbar's sovereignty to the Deccan.
Thus , he established the powerful Mughal empire and became theundisputed ruler of India.
