         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. In the early Roman Republic, farms were owned by small families.<br>2. Around this time, the nobles began occupying more than the law allowed.<br>3. They grew, wheat and barley, grapes, olives, and figs, fruits like; apples, peaches, pears, plums, and cherries, nuts like; almonds, walnuts, chestnuts, and various vegetables and herbs.<br>4.The Romans raised many domestic animals. They used oxen, mules, donkeys and cattle to help with plowing and other tasks.<br>5. One of the most important tools were the wheeled plow, with a double-edged blade that could be used to turn over heavy soil.<br>6. They learned about different types of soils and chose crops to plant based on soil type and climate conditions. They improved the quality of soil by adding natural fertilizers, such as manure and the pulp from making wine and olive oil.</div>]]></description>
