For example, “drop a mouse into a poem and let him probe his way out” (line, 3-4), hes obviously talking about reading a poem and solving it like a puzzle or something of that sort. But all I know is that he doesn't literally mean drop a mouse into a poem. The author is trying to mention ways to find the understanding of a poem. Another example of the author trying to show us is, “tie the poem to a chair and torture a confection out of it” (line, 13-14). These quotes are just proving my first point about how the author really likes to use figures of speech. That is why I think that the author's main purpose is to show ways to read a poem and understand it. Even though if they are random things that the author connects.
