Dorothy

Advantage 1: Smaller span of control
Explanation: Easier for the manager to control since there’s a smaller number of employees. Managers can give training to a smaller number of employees so it won't take much time. Therefore, off-the-job training won't be needed as the managers can provide the training.
Advantage 2: Closer relationship between manager and employees
Explanation: Since there are not many workers, managers can have a good relationship with the workers. Workers will be more motivated to do their job and they will know what to do when working in the bookshops.

Isaac

Advantage 1: Supervisor can easily manage his subordinates
Explanation: In a tall hierarchy organisation structure, the supervisor will have less subordinates to work under him. Thus, his job supervising them is easier and communicating with them to get the job rightly done which has more co-operations and allows for better work.

Advantage 2: Easier for promotions
Explanation: The tall hierarchy organisation structure allows for lots of different types of positions to be hold. Therefore, FGH is able to provide many promotion opportunities to it’s worker to ascend in status as a book retailer.

Advantage 1 : Manager and the subordinates under the manager are able to maintain a closer working relationship
Explanation : Manager and subordinates under the manager are able to be close as the manager isn't responsible for too many subordinates so this can help FGH stop all off-the-job training like the managing director suggested as managers can closely supervise the subordinates themselves.

Advantage 2 : Higher chance of being promoted
Explanation : The employees/subordinates have a higher chance of being promoted as they don't have as much employees to compete with compared to a wide hierarchical organisational structure. As there are more people are becoming more promoted and experienced this will help FGH when they takeover and they have enough staff to 6500 bookshops.
