One move I made was making a schedule. I did it so I could keep myself accountable and not think I can push it away and do it later and then later be rushing to get it done. One thing that worked well was dedicating more time on the essay than usual. I wasn’t just writing the paragraph and then walking away I was looking at the paragraph and revising it and I think that worked well. I will continue to work on asking questions on the essay. I didn’t ask any questions on my essay so I want to work on that because I know that will help me. I can’t give anyone on my PLN a shout out because I didn’t ask questions when I should’ve. My goal for our next writing piece is to ask questions to help me with my essay.

As an essayist, I made one major move. That move was to think about what I was writing before I wrote it. I was able to get my work done in a shorter period of time. I used the saying, “Work smarter, not harder.” One move that went well was to go slowly, writing one paragraph a day, then revising it after a little break from work. This helped me focus on my work, and not blank on what I was supposed to accomplish. I will continue to work on ignoring distractions (like siblings) rather than getting up and away from my work to shush the issue. I also need to work on making sure I am using my resources I have access to.

In my PLN, Mrs. Reuter deserves a shout out. She helped me with my thesis statement, and I would have had to change my whole essay if I hadn’t had feedback. My goal for the next writing piece is to get my work done with lots of time to spare so I can lighten the load of pressure to get the work done.

The moves that I made as an essayist throughout this unit is I utilized my PLN and I looked at the rubrics and the essay packets to learn more about the topic if I didn't understand. I also set planning for myself. What worked while in my essay was I understood how to put in evidence and analysis and I had some help from peers. What I will continue to work on is having less pressure on myself and less stress. My mom deserves a shout out because helped me with transitions. Mrs. Reuter helped me with my introduction and conclusion. My goal for my next writing piece is be more organised.

Something that went well was when I reached out to a classmate and we peer-edited together. Another thing that went well was when I decided to get all my work done in a space where I could concentrate. A thing I will continue to work on is trying to reach out and ask questions more. Someone in my PLN who deserves a shout-out is Grace. She helped me peer-edit and I think that really improved my essay. The goal I have for my next writing piece is to reach out more. Another goal I have is to try and keep a more clear head-space.

Throughout writing essays, what really helped me master essay’s was my ability to adapt to any small or large changes that helped improve my essay. Another thing I felt I really improved upon was using more of a widespread vocabulary, which helped to make sure I didn’t repeat any one word too much. I got feedback from teachers and my family and used the feedback to improve my writing too. Something I want to continue to work on with my essays is my counterclaims. I want to work on addressing the other sides of arguments even better so I can understand other people’s opinions better, which will help me prove them wrong with my opinion. The better you can understand the other sides of arguments the better you can prove them wrong. Someone I really want to give a shout out to my mother, who helped proofread my essay to give me feedback on anything for help. Also, I want to give a shout out to my Grandpa who probably spent a couple of hours giving feedback and recommendations for my essay. He was and still is a great writer who I realized will help me from this day forward. (Not to mention my Mom was the one who recommended him). My essay would never be as good as it is now without them! One goal for my next writing piece is to find out about other people who’d be willing to proofread and help with my essays and writing work.

I also worked in a (almost) noise free environment so I could concentrate in my essay. I kept with my plan all the way through the essay in a good writing environment. I could write it pretty easily and it didn’t suck up too much time. I could work on finding better evidence or more loose topic sentences.

I think someone on my PLN who deserves a shout out is my mother because she helped keep me to my schedule and lets me borrow her laptop until noon every morning for schoolwork. I will continue to work on using the feedback that I get from the last piece and carry it over to my next.

In my PLN I chose my parents, they deserve a shout out because they read my essay to me so that I could tell where I needed to change things. I also made my own schedule to help me plan out my writing. I think that my analysis was way better from my character essay to my theme essay, also I think my conclusion was much better. I will continue to use my resources because I feel like I didn't use my resources towards my advantage like my DIY bookmark and my rubric.

One move that I used as an essayist was attempting to make a connection to how this lesson is important in life. Another one is using connections to literary techniques. Some things that worked well for me were using text evidence and fig. language. However, I still need to work on analysis. This move is challenging for me because I have to make my evidence all fit, and so I find myself using similar analysis in short stories where there is less evidence to choose from, and so it is hard to use analysis for the pieces that I find, because there is so little diversity among the few pieces of evidence. I think my mother really deserves a shout out because she was always checking with me to see if I got my goal for the day done. For my next writing piece I would like to be able to do a counterclaim and more diverse analysis.

Reflecting on my character and theme essays I notice throughout the unit I made many moves in my essays, one was crafting a counterclaim for both. This helped me and readers better understand how I found my thesis for the story. I also remained focused whilst writing both essays which helped me perform to my best writing ability on both essays. Next I found that making goals and constantly angling my analysis back to my claim worked well while writing my essay. Furthermore, also using strong evidence and analysis prompts helped me have a strong essay as a whole. Also, I will continue to work on teaching the reader about my claim; rather than telling them. This was a small issue for me on my character essay, though I feel I resolved it on my theme essay. While crafting the two essays I found that many people in my PLN stepped up to help me when I got stuck. First, Hannah helped me peer edit my piece, I found this very helpful, as she gave me some excellent tips to enhance my writing. Next, Madaline helped me when I was stuck and I helped her peer edit as well. Also, Mrs. Reuter gave me some feedback when I was unsure if my introduction met the criteria. Last off, my goal for my next writing piece is to continue to help the reader see how I perceived the story. Also, elaborating on my thoughts would help readers see my point. Overall I feel I excelled at crafting these two essays and at times there were challenges but with the help of my PLN they helped me through it.

As I reflected on my essays, I realized that I used many different moves as an essayist, one, in particular, was using a counterclaim, this helped me see the reader's perspective on the book and dig deeper into why my idea was better. I also realized that I did many things well, but I still have many things to work on. Something I did well on was my introduction. I really focused on hooking readers into my story with a strong intriguing lead, but with all my accomplishments there are still many things I could work on. One being my use of deepening my analysis, although I have all the requirements of analysis, to me I feel I could go even deeper. But I did not do things without help, some people who helped me along the way were Aubree S., Madaline R., and Mrs. Reuter. All these people helped me through the essay and were there when I needed it. As I continue to grow with my literary essays I hope to accomplish being able to strongly state my claim and reasons without second-guessing myself.

This helped to make sure I wasn’t falling behind and didn’t have to write the whole thing in one day. Something that worked well was that I got all the work done and then I had a extra day to check it over and make sure it was good. Something that I will continue to work on is on the analysis to not just retell the quote. Another thing that I will work on is to put in a counterclaim next time. Somebody who deserves a shout out is my mom because she rea over my essay and helped make it better. I also used my character based literary essay to make sure that I used the feedback to make this essay even better. Some things that went well were my transitions. I got really good help from my parents. I used the feedback and how I needed to work on my transitions and then I focused really hard on transitions. I will continue to work transitions, counterclaims, and conclusions. I need to work on making the conclusions have a last thought for readers to think about. I think my parents deserve a shout out. They helped me when I needed help, even though they still had to work. My goal for our next writing piece is to take all of the learning and things i’ve done well in these two essays and use it to help me with the third essay.

Another move I made was taking time to look at the rubric and modeling my work off of that. Something that worked well in my essay was probably my schedule for working on it. It helped me space it out and get work done on time. Something I will continue to work on is my conclusions. I think someone in my PLN who deserves a shout out is Mrs. Reuter. She worked really hard on teaching the lessons and made everything really clear and easy to understand. My goal for my next writing piece is to take some of the key/overarching details and use them in other pieces along the way.

In my theme essay, some moves that I made in it were very explanatory analysis and evidence throughout my body paragraphs, and I also followed the mentor text to help me as I go along. Something that worked well was the introduction and how I compared my theme to the real world.Something I will continue to work on is the conclusion and make it as good as my introduction. And lastly, my goal for my next essay is to try out a counterclaim so I can challenge myself and see how well I can do.

Something that worked well for me is having family members read my essay over and give me feed back.I will continue to work on finding better evidence and a better introduction and conclusion. Someone in my pln who deserves a shoutout is my mom because she was helping me throughout my essay. When I was at my dad’s we FaceTimed and I was able to finish my essay.

During my time I spent on my essay, I used a lot of moves that normal actal authors would make. For example I added in quotes, I gave better detail and understanding of how the book was reflecting to, I also brought up real world problems. One or two things that went well was how I inserted the quote then gave detail and evidence that supported the theme. Another thing that went well was my conclusion I thought I did really good on my conclusion, I am usually not that good at the conclusion. I will continue to successfully add in good transitions and continue to work on punctuation.

One person from my PLN that deserves a shoutout is Madeline and Sam they helped me out with a theme for the book Those Shoes. My next goal for the next writing piece is making sure I included more of how the characters were affected in any way.

When I look back at my Character and Theme essay, one move I made was using lots of specific and detailed evidence to back up my quotes. One thing that helped me as I was doing my piece was to use lots of examples and to ask questions if I needed to get help. Thank you, Layla T, Avery B, Kayla G, Olivia L, and mostly Mrs. Reuter for helping me with questions I had or just to help me to critique my pieces and get feedback. For my next piece my goal is to get as much feedback and work off of those and to also use lots of resources to make my piece right.

My goal for the future is to keep on working on transitions and punctuation.
