The inspiration behind my idea for my final piece was a trip I went on to Norway. It is what sparked my need to travel and increased my love for the world. I really want to express my love for nature and the natural world in this project, in a unique and personal way.
I want to look into working with different textures and surfaces to achieve this. I want to express the true beauty of the world through painting.
Some artists that I have been inspired by are Gillian Ayres, who creates very textured paintings, and Monet who's landscapes I admire.
I am hoping to achieve a successful painting or series of paintings, displaying my love of nature and that will allow me to work on my art style which I can hopefully develop to be able to work with it professionally in the future.

For my final major project, I will be creating an illustrated, science fiction themed book which will follow the journal of a female biologist as she embarks on an expedition to an unknown world. It ultimately documents the highs and lows of the expedition, right up until their inevitable downfall.

My inspiration comes from Wayne Barlow, who created a very similar concept for his book: 'The Expedition'.

I'm hoping to improve my illustrative abilities and I hope to have a fully fleshed out short book, created before the deadline.

below is a piece I created for a prior project. It's what encouraged me to write the story for the fmp. It follows very similar themes and aesthetics to what I imagine my final project will look like.

A Celebration Of Gender Identity
Rhiannon Griffiths

1: I want to raise awareness of gender identity, teach people how to be an ally to those who are ostracised by society, and celebrate the diversity of human kind

2:I will be doing research into many artists including Cindy Sherman, Ellen Gallagher and Patrick Quarn.
My research will also come from the film Pride, and books such as; If I was Your Girl, and 50 Queers who changed the World
I also really want to do interviews with different kinds of people, and do some people photography

3: I am hoping to grow in confidence in my art practise, as well as learn new skills and challenge myself and my work.

My Street.
Janet Jones
I have many years teaching students with severe disabilities. During my last teaching post I worked with students in 6th form aged 16-19 years. They were working on targets that were below national curriculum levels. Trying to find age appropriate books was a difficult task because books that contain counting from 1 to 10 for non-readers are generally for infants and do not relate to the lives of older teenagers in any way. This book is aimed at older students with a low cognitive level. It will contain teenagers, some mobile and some not-mobile (in wheelchairs). It will contain characters of different races and it is my aim for students to think 'the characters are like me or my friend in my class'. The resource will contain a short rhythmic verse on each page as students with special needs often like the repeating rhythm when it is read over and over encouraging speech. I also aim to include a puzzle that accompanies the book which will focus on colour matching, recognising shapes, character recognition and counting to 10. Each character in the book shares an activity they enjoy and this activity can also be included in the students daily school life. It is an all inclusive book encouraging an understanding of disability and race.
I have been looking at children's illustrators who place all the content in the characters but leave the background without much detail as this can distract students with severe disabilities. Illustrators - Shirley Hughes (Dogger and Alfie), Pat Hutchins (Good Night Owl, she also uses a rhythmic nature to her words which I'm interested in) and Quentin Blake (Roald Dahl books, no background although his characters are often similar in style and difficult for students with special needs to recognise).
I aim to read to students in a local special needs school, look at documentaries about students with disabilities and have some fun in Museum of Childhood in London and toy shops!!! I'm hoping the puzzle will have a Bauhaus quality in terms of style and colour.
I am hoping to improve my illustration skills and puzzle making skills throughout this project in the hope I can continue to create resources for older students with disabilities.

1. For my major project, I want to explore what personal identity means to different people and how I can therefore approach that in different ways creatively, to show how everyone is different and unique. I believe that this is a relatable subject to everyone, which is something that inspired me to explore this theme. The message will be to appreciate everyones individuality.

2. Artists of inspiration include Frida Kahlo, and some contemporary artists, such as, Agnes Cecile, Michael Reeder, Yulia Bas, Robbert Mappelthorpe and Lorna Simpson. I also want to conduct my own personal research, creating a questionnaire, containing a series of question related to the subject to ask a small sample of people to answer, in order to understand their views about identity and gain a better understanding of them as individuals.

3. I am hoping to expand my creative skills further, by experimenting with medias and techniques to create an effective outcome. I am also hoping to improve my illustrative skills.

In pursuit of becoming a freelance digital artist, the intention of this project is to develop my digital painting abilities.

With this in mind, I selected a project that incorporated my passion for characters and digital illustration; fictional life. Though not intended to be interpreted as "not real life", but instead as "breathing life into fiction", the project utilises an existing narrative I have that is based in a not-to-distant future where the rise of virtual technology replaces war with a fictional sports-like festival where upon victory can transform your life and the lives of those around you.

Just as fictional life impacts the world of my narrative, fictional characters invoke real emotions from us, and that is the focus of my project.

Immersed within the world of concept art, digital illustration and character design alike, I will be heavily influenced by my inspirations such as artists like Ross Tran and Wang Ling, or games like League of Legends which have achieved what I wish to achieve within their work. The image featured below is of a digital character illustration from League of Legends which is essentially what I intend to produce for my exhibition piece.

Comic Strip - Morgan Jones

Regarding my Final Major Project, my primary intent would be to create a comic strip that expressed a dynamic form of storytelling via panel composition and page construction. The short comic would depict a scene from a story that I had been writing for years now, the story itself taking place in a fantasy setting.
My main influences towards this project are two comic authors known as Eiichiro Oda and Junji Ito. I admire the way that they create their pages as they implement the way that the panels are read into the actual presentation and pacing. Alongside this, the use of places such as my home town could serve as a useful reference for background settings, a helpful source as I would be able to easily adapt them into the aforementioned fantasy setting.
To learn to adapt and develop my character creation, posing and story conveyance is a task that I aim to achieve as it will aid me well in the future. The experience of creating a comic is something that may prove extremely useful for a career I aim for.

The Cruel Sea“

Dean Oldershaw

Britain is an island nation surrounded by the sea and our history was born upon it.

My influences are my love and respect of the sea that surrounds our beautiful coastline, their is something truly magical and moving about being in her majestic presence but don’t underestimate that beauty for beneath the blue lies in wait a raging beast of incredible strength and anger and if you take her for granted she will take you without mercy or hope of return.

Our history is a wash with tales from the sea from years of fishing, whaling exporting and importing both legal and illegal and of course years of conflict upon it. It has created many heroes and villains with good stories and bad stories to tell but the stories that strike the most fear are the tragic stories of violent storms and freak weather patterns that take ships and sailors good and bad folk a like, disappearing without a trace.

Many artists have tried to capture the power and emotion of the cruel sea JMW Turner painted the Shipwreck in 1805 with oils on canvas, I hold this painting in highest esteem for he captures all the right emotion from the power to the sorrow, Turner will be someone I want to research to find out more about his inspiration, technique and vision

Ivan Aivazovsky Armenian Russian painter is probably my favourite, His oil painting of 1850 The Ninth Wave has everything for me, beauty and emotion.

Theodore Gericault 1819 The Raft of Medusa again oil on canvas is another ore inspiring piece of work. Ive named three artists with renowned works as inspiring and a point of research but I will not be ignoring some of the more modern painters from the twentieth century.

I will be visiting the Welsh National Museum and I hope to get along to the National Maritime museum in Greenwich London to look at different styles and options with oil paints and seascapes. I plan to visit local ports and beaches and rocky outposts to make image references with a sketchbook and camera.

What do I wish to get from this ? I want to capture emotion, strength and beauty and learn how to use oils and acrylics to a good standard so that I can express the feelings I have when I am on the shoreline.

Ioan Davies

The world we live in today has been built by millennia of diverse tribes and cultures that have forgone more trials and changes and developed rich cultures that shape the societies we are a part of today. This diversity in how the human race has developed in different parts of the world and the great leaders that guided them through to greatness and sometimes downfall has always fascinated me and has been recently spurred on again by a recent playthrough of the game Civilisation 6. I will be taking inspiration from the way this game presents its numerous peoples and using works by people like Frank Razetta and Alphonse Mucha to hopefully portray various leaders and the scenes and events that made the societies they led so important and create pieces and murals that can capture the rich variety and culture of human history.
