New York Tuesday 11 September 2001. The skyline of New York has changed, America has changed, the western civilization has changed, on that particular day the whole world changed. A terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre made a huge impact. Islamic extremists, indoctrinated by their leader Osama bin Laden, hijacked four commercial airplanes. And flew them into serval major American landmarks. Their aim was to make a gigantic impact on America’s civilization by mass murder. Mass murder as purpose to cause as much mental, emotional, physical and financial pain as possible. According to official report these terrorist attacks were organised by members of Al Qaida, coming of countries in the Middle-East. The United States of America considered this attack as a declaration of war. President George W. Bush declared the war against terrorism and made a call on the NAVO.
 
 After that day everyone and everything changed. Since then there is a remarkable change in security at airports. A strict process before entering the airplane should prevent a hijack, with terrible consequences, again. On the place of where the World Trade Centre stood now stands a beautiful monument.  The greatest international multi-sport event was held in America in 1996 from 19th of July till 4th of August. With a record of 197 nations and 10.318 athletes, host city Atlanta had a tremendous job to fulfil. The record of 197 nations competing  was a result of the Soviet Union falling apart, after the fall of the German wall. In the Olympics of 1992 these countries competed under the flag of the Unified Team. But in 1996 they were finally recognized to compete under their own flag. Because the Soviet Union, or Russia now, host nation America could make a huge step on the medal ranking. And they did their best efforts to be topping the medal rankings with winning a total 101 medals. Consisting of 25 bronze, 32 silver and 44 gold medals. 
 
 The 1996 summer Olympics programme featured 271 events in 26 sports. Mountain biking, beach volleyball and softball made their debut on the Olympics programme. As well as women’s association football and lightweight rowing. 
 
 The quote “Come Celebrate Our Dream” was selected out of 500 submits. This slogan was chosen because it, captured the spirit and our true motivation for the Olympics games. It inspired the American athletes and people to cheer for each other.

A significant day on the behalf of humanity. As we start a new century in the form of space traveling and exploration. Despite the hard times during the 60’s when earth’s civilization did it self harm by wars, terrorism, discrimination, and hate, this remarkable day was a bright spot in a hard decade. 
 
 Although technology was not as advanced as it is nowadays, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known as NASA, managed to do the job before the Soviet Union did. In this time period the cold war was a big deal in the world. As the United States of America (capitalism) stood against the Soviet Union (communism), in an non-violence war. Although these enormous empires had colossal weapons, they did not use them. They were also in a race to be the first country to put a man on the moon. The whole world was watching these giants and were waiting to see who was first, putting extra pressure on NASA. But eventually NASA was the big winner, putting Neil Armstrong as first human on the moon. Competing at the age of 15 in his first games during the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. A stunning record of five consecutive Olympic games makes him one of the greatest. Not alone that he has won a total of 28 medal (23 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze), making him a true legend! During the 2008 Olympics games in Beijing he won a total of eight gold medals, a record for most gold medals at the Olympics. A funny fact from the above is that he did not win a single medal at his first Olympics, not a shame when you’re debuting at the age of 15.
 
 Phelps has some extraordinary physical characteristics, giving him an advantage in swimming. His span is eight centimetres longer then his height, which his very useful (normal people have the same height and span). Besides that Phelps’ distance between his hips and ribs is 10 centimetres longer than usual. At last Phelps is also hypermobile in his joints, making it possible to make bigger swings with his legs. 
 
 These extraordinary physical characteristics sure did help him becoming a Olympian legend, but that is not the only factor for his success.
