The hook is usually the first sentence in your essay. Hooks grab your reader's attention. This is important because you want your reader to be interested in what you want to say. If want your reader to read your whole essay you have to have a good hook and continue to say interesting things throughout your essay. You can start your hook with a question, cool fact, story, quote, etc. For example: Did you know that the most popular dog breed is a Labrador Retriever?
