Musicians and art students work with bereaved families to compose, create or perform musical memorials for someone who passed. Counseling students and songwriting students work alongside to develop pieces.

Allow students to assume "guiding" roles in a community experience where they help create a sense of environmental beauty that is meaningful for those who inhabit those spaces/places. One idea is to work with programs where people move into affordable housing but the space is a blank slate (planting a garden, making art that explores personal relationships and sense of home).

Hand to Hold

Fashion students partnered with Hand To Hold (a NICU support organization) to sew scent cloths for NICU moms and babies as part of their studio courses this fall. Next semester, fashion students will be designing custom textile prints for Hand To Hold scent cloths as part of their curriculum and course deliverables in a fashion technology course. I think it’s important to offer service learning opportunities into the classroom and make it an integral part of the curriculum. This particular example also highlights the importance of collaborating with other purpose clusters. Fashion + healthcare.
