In this week's padlet we will be diving into the concept of a single note. A note in music can be understood as a single sound. In various kinds of music you can find it used as a way of emphasis and intensity. This is an important musical element because it's effects can so greatly influence a song across many different music genres. Ratliff clearly values the art of this musical element and I agree with is claims. He brings out how when used appropriately it doesn't bore a listeners interest. I would agree on how the element can draw an audience's attention and cause more intent listening. Ratliff's example of "Flying Home" by Lionel Hampton this musical element is brought out and exemplified by his use of the saxophone. Illinois Jacquet solo is a single note blended in with the rest of the song. "One note melody" by Noel Paul Stookey can also exemplify this element of a single note by his use of the guitar.
