Currently in math we have just completed unit 9 and are moving on towards unit 10. I'll be taking my mocks in January the next year and then will be working on further. We have done sin-co sin rules, algebraic proof and quadratic simultaneous equations along with many past papers.

My current grade: 6+

My anticipated grade: 8

Improvements: I can keep working on past papers and also participate more in class to give answers and also ask questions.

English

In English at the start of the term, we completed the first draft of our coursework on 'An Inspector Calls' which is 20% of my GCSE, I feel that went well since I did multiple mini assessments before that and scored high marks. In addition to this, we are currently working on the language side of the GCSE course and have finished the 10 texts that will be assessed on, with a full knowledge of questions 1-5.

My current grade: 6+

My anticipated grade: 7+

Improvements: I can further improve my vocabulary and work on more complicated, sophisticated phrases to describe my extracts.

Biology

In Biology, we have finished chapter 5 and 6 on diseases including a backstory on vaccinations. We learnt about antibodies and the ways that the body defends itself against pathogens. We also learnt of artificial ways such as antibiotics that can be used to assist white blood cells in destroying pathogens.

My current grade: 6

My anticipated grade: 8

Improvements: After talking to teachers, I can improve by going on past paper websites and also working through mark schemes so I can get phrases that are key words to get the highest marks.

French

Half term 1- we looked over Module 2 (Sports, Technology, Reading, Cinema, Free time and TV)

My final grade: 4

My anticipated grade: 7-

For improving, I will regularly use sites like language nut and this is school to help me in my writing. Furthermore, I will try to practice using wow phrases to get better scores on my 20 markers and to understand synonyms for reading and writing.

Half term 2- we are currently looking over Module 3 (Celebrations)

After winter break- Module 4 (Town and local area)

Geography

We started a new topic on coral reefs, sand dunes and salt marshes and the ways that humanity directly contributes to the destruction of these habitats for many marine animals. Furthermore, we looked into erosion and depositional landforms, seeing how waves can cause changes in coasts.

My current grade: 6

My anticipated grade: 7

Improvements: Work more on my geography textbook questions and look into answering the question solely without going into too much detail.

As this is a new subject for me, we started on memory and interpreted the different ways that memory can change over time, either due to amnesia or other distractions that can cause a loss of short term memory. Along with this, we looked into different studies and learnt how to write an essay on them and their helpfulness in the study of Psychology.

My current grade: 4+

My anticipated grade: 5+

Improvements: To work on seeing the advantages and disadvantages of studies and their main role in memory.

Design and Technology

In DT, we learnt about two topics, one on new and emerging technologies and the other on sustainability in industries. We looked over pneumatics and new modern materials such as fibre optics and polymorph that benefit companies significantly in designing new products. We also did mini hands on tasks such as making a keychain, and we are now working on a rotating toy using automata logic.

My current grade: 6+

My anticipated grade: 8

Improvements: To refine my skills at designing online models on CAD softwares and learning how to use those softwares efficiently.

Physics

In Physics, we worked on circuits like parallel and series along with circuit components, ways to measure the power, current and charge using an ammeter, etc. We went through many experiments and saw different ways that current can effect voltage directly and the differences between ohmic and non-ohmic conductors.

My current grade: 6

My anticipated grade: 8

Improvements: I can further go into detail with knowing the units for equations and work on educate to further refine my ability to answer questions.

Chemistry

Whilst starting on a new topic on titration and relative masses and moles, we learnt about ions and covalent structures, with a full background on graphene and carbon nanoparticles. I felt very interested in the ways that percentage yield can be used to see how much is lost in an experiment due to external causes.

My current grade: 6

My anticipated grade: 8

Improvements: I can work on getting a general idea of ionic and covalent structures and see an overall gist of the differences between the two. Furthermore, I can improve on my ability to answer exam questions in bullet points rather than wasting time writing excessively.

For my volunteering at Duke of Edinburgh, I have consistently been joining sessions to design and make props for the musicals at school. This taught me a lot as I learnt important skills that will benefit me in DT.
