Happy Friday!   Don't forget that Monday is a School Holiday.  So take the day to enjoy a little relaxing time at home. 
We had our Valentine's Day parties yesterday.  As you saw last night, there was not a shortage of treats. Thanks so much for helping contribute to the party snacks. 
We are focusing on 4 skills to help us get ready for our upcoming DBA 2 on March 5th and end of year STAAR.
Non-Fiction ---finding and supporting answers embedded in text
Figurative Language -- identifying and determining why the author is using it
Dictionary usage--  using the dictionary efficiently and consistently
Paired Passages--  comparing two text and deciding why we are comparing them

We are working on keeping our stamina up all the way through our DBA 2...  our goal is for everyone to go up 2 questions from their last assessment.  Our end of the year goal is to have 88% passing and 56% students reaching met.  This is a great and clever group of students!  We were able to achieve 90% passing  last year, so we are working hard to do our best.  Between our DBA and STAAR, there is a solid month to work on our weaknesses and keep on strengthening our skills.


Student Council is sponsoring the Pennies for Patients Penny Drive as a service project for this year.  

 For the next 3 weeks, we will be collecting money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  This will be a House competition to see which house can raise the most money.  Our campus goal is $2500!  We will be taking cash/coin donations as well as online donations.  Every House has an online donation page and students can set up their own individual page as well.  Students need to select their HOUSE COLOR as their classroom, not teacher name!
